Don't know what's going on with this one. I've used Nero for awhile and now all of a sudden it locks up (sortof) during "caching of files started". - Start the process and it goes through "relocation started" then "completed"; then goes on to "DVD-Video files sorted"; "caching of files started". It reaches 100% of this process and then nothing. - I can see the LED on the front panel flickering and hear the HD doing something, yet the CPU usage shows very little happening. - Nero shows up 23,000KB of memory; - It is impossible to shut down, even forcing it in Task Manager (both applications and processes) -- you have to do a hard boot; I can't even copy/paste a log for everyone to see. Here's my system info: P4 1.8GHz 400MHz FSB 256KB L2 cache 768MB SDRAM Windows XP, SP2 Western Digital 250Gb, 7200RPM Burner is a brand new NEC (ND-3540A), 16x DVD+-R/RW/DL - Firmware is the latest 1.3 I've updated all my system drivers; have the latest BIOS; put the latest firmware on the NEC; I've even uninstalled Nero -- and did a system and registry clean sweep of it. Then reinstalled it. No luck. Keeps happening. Thoughts? While I boot my computer again?
Updating this question... I unchecked both options for "caching" of files. Still a no go. This time it locks up after "DVD-Video files sorted". It's like the burning process just won't start - it starts the process, but then locks up just before it's about to start. As if the NEC isn't responding, yet the drive works fine for playback. The disc inside goes untouched.
