Greetings. I just got a new computer and am new to all this stuff and i got some film clips im trying to make onto a dvd using nero vision but some of them will work fine and other will hang at creating menus and transcoding streams but the elapsed time gauge will continue ticking while it just hangs there. Most of the time it will finish this step in 3 second flat and move onto putting the project on disc but others it just doesn't. Any idea how to get this fixed or any where you can point me so I can get this fixed?

    Thanks.

    Hi riddleme
    Welcome to aD

Files play ok on the pc otherwise?
What format are they - like avi, mov. wmv?
Which version of Nero are you using - like 6.6.0.18 or 7.0.8.2?

    Hi, Binkie. Cute Sig.

The files play fine on the PC. It's when I want to put them on DVD that some of them fail. For example, I'll be burning a season of a telelvision show and all eps will burn fine except say eps 5 and 8 which will give me that problem. It's real strange. Everything else burns fine. Most of them are Avis and it's version 7.0. I'm new to this stuff and don't really know how to downgrade to a previoius version.

I am having the exact same problem using Nero 7. I have heard that if you burn to image recorder and not directly to disc it will fix the problem. I tried, but am still having the same problem. The screen just says "creating menus and transcoding streams" and the "remaining time" stays the same but elapsed time continues to tick. I have read dozens of other posts on other sites about this problem and nobody seems to know how to fix it.

I will let you know that I was having the same problem and fixed it. But my solution is probably not the same as yours because of the media content I am trying to burn. I was taking peoples home made vacation videos from the internet and trying to make a movie out of them. If you are trying to burn a professional movie (like King Kong)...then I don't think this is how you would fix it...but if they are home made clips......I burned to image recorder(my hard drive) instead of a dvd(this way I dont waste dvds if it fails)........ok so what I did was I sat there and watched to see where in the movie it got hung up at(froze up).....after realizing that exact point(there was a couple)...I went back each time and cut that part of the movie out...I think the problem was at the end of the clip..it wasn't formated right or something. I just clipped the endings off a couple and it burned fine after that. Most of the stuff was at the end of clips so it didn't really matter if it was missing. I dont know about your situation but if you can do without a couple seconds of footage here and there....you might want to give this a try.

I'm sorry to post again but this is kind of important to and I just thought of it......In order to save time through the process I just mentioned.....I had multiple titles I was burning. What I would do is save the entire project first before trying to burn...as a backup...after I noticed where the glitch happened....I would go back and fix it...but each time.....delete whatever titles(or chapters) it already went through that were ok....but don't save anything..
    I had the following titles:
    EastCoast
    WestCoast
    MidWest
    South

It made it through eastcoast and westcoast fine...but a file in Midwest is where it got hung up....so the second time around I deleted eastcoast and westcoast...and started the burn process at midwest...now that I clipped the area around the bad part out.....it made it to South...where I ran into another problem.....So this time I started over again(opened my saved project which still has Eastcoast and Westcoast because I never save after deleting anything)...and this time deleted Eastcoast,Westcoast, and now midwest because I know its ok.....Now I only have to wait 10 minutes or so to test out "south"...After I cut the glitches out of that....I go back to my saved project(with Eastcoast,Westcoast,MidWest, and South)...and burn the whole thing.....
This will save you hours worth of time and stress.

See, mine isn't even getting to that point. It hangs during the first progress bar (the one at the top). The progress bar that usually only takes literally 5 seconds before it starts burning the rest of the project.

I thought maybe it was because I had something mounted to daemon tools so I closed that and it was working fine for a couple of burns (even things that I was having this problem with before) but now it's back to doing the same thing and daemon isn't even open.

Yup, so far this it's working. Well, at least it's burning what I wanted to right now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks for the help everyone (especially Binkie) it is much appreciated and I don't think you guys get the props you deserve for helping us all out anytime us dummies have a problem with something and doing it in a kind and cordial (not to mention very timely) manner.

And you're very welcome on the help too!

    Happy burning
