    Yo!
I'm trying to burn a data dvd but I keep getting an illegal disc error. What am I doing wrong?

Update firmware from here to YSOy
    http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/SHW-1635S/firmware/DR16YS0Y.zip

It is recommended to have a minimum of 512meg RAM for burning DVD, I would recommend adding another 256Meg, in the meantime dont multitask

I cant comment on these discs as I have never heard of them

    Yo!
I updated the firmware. But when I try to burn, I get a message that my disc isn't empty (and I know it is). I choose to erase but it won't, instead it just repeats that disc isn't empty and won't even start to erase the disc. I tried using another rw disc but I get the same message. What to do?

Is that the same DVD disc you used in the first burn? I noticed you tried to change the book type a couple of times, which it should not do for a DVD+RW. If you put the disc in and check it, is it a DVD +RW or DVD-ROM right now?

If the book type was changed to a DVD-ROM, it can't be erased. Try another DVD and see if it makes any difference.
