OK, after trawling the net and viewing countless threads in numerous forums i still have problems with the dvd burning. I have been using Nero express version 6.3.0.6 for a while now and never had problems burning. The last week has been problematic to say the least because i cant' even copy a dvd to a blank dvd. I'll post the last error log i got. I believe it contains all the details relating to the PC I use. Any help is greatly appreciated. I see that you are trying to do "On the Fly" copying. Your available memory may be causing a problem. On the Fly for DVD movies is not recommended. When you open Nero Express, uncheck the Quick Copy box and slow your write speed down to 2X. If it works at 2X you might try a 4X burn and see how that goes. Before burning you may want to run a couple of the NeroTools to insure your Nero installation is healthy. These only take a minute to do and always seem to find and correct registry problems: http://nero.com/us/Driver_Clean_Tool_and_RegistryChecker.html Try doing a simulated burn before commiting a DVD. Select "More" and then check the Simulation box. Make sure you are using good media. Verbatim, Ritek, Taiyo Yuden are my favorites. It would be a good idea to try a DVD-RW so you can erase any errors and use it again. You had a bunch of different errors, hopefully these suggestions will eliminate some if not all. If you have another failed burn after this post another log.
Fasfrank, thankyou for taking the time to post your comments regarding my problem. I have tried all of the suggestions, alas i am still getting errors....this one came from a recode a tried to do. It seems it's affecting Cyberlink as i use that sometimes as well...however this is a recent problem as i never had these issues when trying to burn stuff onto dvd's. @cocolombi - this is from your Nero log at top of thread - - that is way too old. Uninstall Nero, uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools - " http://www.nero.com/en/Clean_Tools.html ", and install 6.6.0.15 - firmware is way out of date. Version P3.4 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1941 - a-ha, as i say, Nero is too old. it cannot recognise your drive correctly - what on earth!. you're gonna have to free up loads more memory, your hard disc will be 'swapping', bad for PC and bad for a DVD trying to burn from the same hard disc - this is fine but in case you use DVD Shrink, alter target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge if future discs and not sacrificing much space. - you see - the burner can only tell it's a +R disc, out of date firmware's stopping it knowing anything else - sort the stuff i've mentioned - splat!, but at least you're burning at a decent speed, keep it to 4x - this is a packet writing driver from Roxio software. Uninstall Roxio as it interferes with Nero also, hopefully you're using decent media, not cheap rubbish..
Yep...What creaky said! I saw this in your last log: 22:08:20 File burn_dvdfiles.cpp, Line 385 Out of memory. I'd take that at face value and say you are out of memory. One of the things all of us "old timers" like to do is to get the folks with marginal systems and programs up to speed. You can see where we are going with this. We would like you to clean out your computer, get your programs and firmware updated and make sure you're using good media. In your case you also need to do something about your memory. 512 MB is normally enough but you have something really eating into that before the burn. Look at your Task Manager and figure out what it is and disable it. I would also check to make sure you have plenty of hard drive space available as well. You also have the option of going the Shrink Decrypter route. That would give you an alternative to Nero.
creaky, thankyou for your input as well. I used the nero cleaning tool and updated..pretty much followed the instructions and still got an error. Guys, i'm beginning to think it has something to do with the memory, but it's baffling as something definately seems to be eating away at the memory. I don't know much about this but I will follow your sensible advice fasfrank. I'll report back...hopefully it will be to express my gratitude rather than post another error log.
no worries, latest section of logfile would be good if you missed something. if you sorted the stuff we pointed out and it's just memory being eaten then let us know..
