I am having major beef writing any type of file to dvd, i have tried numerous versions of nero and every one gives an illegal disc error message or randomly sometimes could not write disc-at-once.
I have no probs writing cd's.
after searching the net for ages many people keep seem to have solved similar probs with upgrading the firmware, but any site with upgrades warns you can do quite a bit of damage if done wrong

PLEASE help me i'm a total nab at this sort of stuff

HERE IS THE LOG OF MY LATEST ATTEMPT

Your DMA is off on your burner! Here is how to turn it back on:
    http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

    upgrade your firmware to MSOP:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php search your for your drive and download the MSOP firmware. when you run the firmware you pick your drive to do the update to and it will update your firmware for that drive only...... mistake proof!

Firmware for your burner as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades.

Your media (Fuji DVD-R) is the culpret. Use better media. Fuji is second class media at best unless it's [bold]made in Japan[/bold].... [bold]Yours is not![/bold] Use media that says MIJ on the lable! or use Verbatim.... that's the only exception to the MIJ rule and the only Taiwan disks I'll use! Other lower quality media will give you problems and error out like what you are having now:
    you are running Nero 7:
As for Nero 7 the new version 7.5.1.1 is about the most stable, get it from

    http://www.nero.com

Or 7.0.8.2, which I think is still available here.

    http://www.filehippo.com

ok...... this is what you do:

    1. save your serial #
    2. uninstall Nero
    3. use the Nero 7 Cleaning tools: http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html
    4. do a registry clean up, and if you don't have a program to do the job, get one free one here: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/
    5. defrag the hard drive
    6. reboot
    7. reinstall Nero 7: links are above!

if you do these updates and adjustments you'll have better results!

    Cheers mate!
After flashin the firmware everything is fine.
I am a sucker for cheap throw away discs, will get some decent ones soon though.

Thanks a million again, response so quick after posting and now the huge thorn in my arse has been removed.

@IHoe, I have been using version 7.0.8.2 since it's release...I did try other versions but have reverted to 7.0.8.2...I dont use too many of it's "flashy" features so Karen (binkie7) would be the best person to ask....she also likes 6.6.0.18.
