I was using nero 7 to back my xbox games and dvds and about a week ago it just stopped working. I tried alcohol 120 also and it would not work either. this leades me to beleive its not a software problem. I difinitely didnt change the way i was doing it. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Your firmware is out of date. Upgrade to the newest version which is 2.1g

I'm not familiar with Optodiscs but I hear they're not great...
... So I would recommend getting some Verbatims instead.

Avoid multitasking when burning to free up some memory. With 512mb Ram, you should should be fine.

If these are 8x discs, you should try to burn at 4x

You say you have burned successfully with this drive before? If so, have you recently changed to Optodiscs? You might have been able to burn with these settings with higher quality media.

There could be something else that I'm missing, but in the meantime, you should try some Verbatims DVD+/-R 8x. See if that changes anything.

According to your log, it looks like the process is starting up fine up until it gets to the burning part. I'd say the problem is either with the disc or the burner.

Maybe someone else could help me interpret the following...

Not sure if I'm reading this right but shouldn't there be something else than zeros here. If it is the case, then your burner does not "agree" with that disc...

I updated the firmware, used different discs, and closed every possible program; it still doesn't work. Anymore suggestions?

I was going to suggest trying another program to see if the problem even is with Nero, but then I re-read your original post and you did mention the burn failed with alcohol 120 as well...

You also did mention the process worked before.

Therefore, after getting better quality discs, making sure you burn at a reasonable speed, closing down other programs in the background and upgrading your firmware and still not getting better results would lead me to think the problem might be with you burner itself.

In cases of sudden failures with computers, I feel it's usually safe to presume the moving part is responsible when no software cause is apparent.

What I'll do is I will PM an expert in Nero logs with a link to this post an see if he can find anything else in you Log to explain the problem. Otherwise, as I mentionned above, I'm thinking your burner may be faulty.

Still some issues with this last log...

Since you're burning to a single layer disc, you do not need to be burning this slow. In fact, you will get better results if you burn at 4x. What is the advertised spec. on those discs?

    also

I feel bad for not specifying to stay away from Memorex or other cheap blank media. CMC Mags are actually about as bad as those Optodiscs if not worse.

Still it seems a lot of your RAM is being used up. You might still have some unnecessary programs running in your system tray.

Relace Nero I found this to correct all errors and problems, just don't forget to use the clean tool from Nero site to scrape up the roots!

    hi, just passing...

hi, only a couple things left that stand out -
    - - DMA needs to be ON, and you have those annoying 'IdeChnDr' drivers (Intel Application Accelerator or something); if i recall correctly you can only get DMA back ON by getting rid of those drivers. try this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm and install the standard Microsoft drivers when prompted

i dunno what a 'vaxscsi' port is, however try sorting DMA and it shouldn't matter :)
