Hi everyone, i'm really hoping someone can give me an answer on this. Lately, about every second or third disc I try burn, says it completes, but will not play in any of my four dvd players. I've watched what happens, and the disc material is all burned successfully, but when it's finishing the disc, at the lead out point, instead of taking maybe 20 seconds to complete, it's taking closer to two minutes. I've tried different medias, and everything else I can think of, but still no luck. Any thoughts?? I'd appreciate any feedback you can give. I can't give an error log or post one, because technically nero says it's completing the burns successfully.

You should post a log anyway. There may be hints as to the cause of the problem.

Maybe you're burning too close to the edge?

I've never actually heard of burning to close to the edge? But if that's the case, why have I probably burned over 200 discs prior to this, without it happening?? Also, if it helps, i use nero express, and shrink. I noticed the how-to used on the site, doesn't use express. could that be part of the issue? but again, if that's the case, why has it not happened prior to my last couple weeks?

good and bad burns are automatically appended to the Nero logfile; post LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Here is my log. The last couple movies have finished burning in about six minutes, but it's taking almost three minutes to write the lead out, when it seemed like about 10 seconds previously. Please, please, please help:

Also, lately, it will only let me burn to -Rs, not any other media. If I put in a +R it pops up a window telling me to use a +R, -R, or other media. Here's another recent log:

i used just the last log...

    - not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x

    version

    - wow your firmware is old, JY07 is here - http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#720

    - 4465MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - not the best discs out there; if other suggestions don't work, try decent discs

    - hmmm, you need to set the booktyping setting to auto. do this in 'recorders/choose recorders/options'

    - wow 16x - no way!. most ppl recommend 4x for movies, some do 8x (i primarily do 4x but one of my drives does 8x fine so i sometimes do 8x as long as i'm gonna watch the resulting movie straight afterwards (ie i can verify the burn)

Will do. . .one question on your answers though. You told me to change my booktype settings, at recorders/choose recorders/options. . . .is that actually in nero?

Creaky, It won't let me do any of your suggestions. The nero already has been set to "auto". I tried to download the firmware for my drive and that wouldn't play, and I changed the amount shrink allows to 4300 and now it won't even shrink. I give up, maybe i'll just blow up my computer.
