I apologize if this is a duplicate message of a topic covered before. I haven't had a chance to read through all the forums yet. I have recently bought a Philips DVD-RW (16 double capacity series) with Lightscribe option. It came with Nero 6 which has cute Lightscribe buttons in the toolbar, none of them are clickable when designing labels, though. When I start designing a DVD label through Nero Express (the only option to burn anything Lightscribe at all), I get a template that has only a small (0.5 mm) printable ring on the DVD. I didn't realize this problem at first and have already ruined two DVD disks. Can anyone tell me why Nero and Philips have teamed up to produce something that doesn't work (or at least not for dummies like myself) and how to possibly fix this? Thanks!
Doesn't that version come with Nero Cover Designer? Most of the applications have access to it after you burn something and transfer the information you might need directly into it. You can use Cover Designer by itself to play. If Nero has the lightscribe option available, the rest of it should work. You may have to add text or a graphic or what you need yourself. I don't have a lightscribe so I can't check the procedures for you. You might want to practice just making a normal label and then you'll see how it works.
Check out this link from Nero http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/LightScribe.html and heres the link to download lightscribe http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/System_Requirement_Updates.html
For the template that is available (small ring on DVD), the program does work. The problem is, when I choose another template, it won't burn a lightscribe label. When I import a created label into the Lightscribe DVD/CD label template, it only burns what is on this small ring (don't know if this is clearly explained)... I have done all the updates etc. I have written to Nero now asking for support.. let's see what happens there.
I received an answer from tech suppport, but none of it actually worked for me (some of the links in the e-mail didn't even work). I am posting it anyway as it may be of use to someone else. However, from the lightscribe.com pages, I got a link to download Sure Thing 4 SE... and that did the trick!! I am now happily burning Lightscribe labels! ------------------ Mail from Nero Tech Support --------------------- Please update to the current Nero 6 Version. You can download the latest Nero 6 Version from our website: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php The help-files for these updates have to be installed separately. Download the English language-pack, which includes the help-files: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/sp_file.php?spla=eng (Please note that the current language-pack can only be installed if the current Nero 6 version has been installed beforehand. The version-number of the Nero 6 update and the version-number of the language-pack have to be identical.) Nero fully supports LightScribe Direct Disk Labeling. LightScribe technology requires four elements: 1. LightScribe enabled CD/DVD recorder 2. LightScribe compatible CD/DVD 3. Nero 7 or Nero 6 Reloaded (Nero 6.6.0.8 or later version installed) 4. LightScribe Host Software must be installed. It can be downloaded from our website: http://dl1.nero.com/LS_HSI.EXE Please download the user guide from our website to learn more about LightScribe: http://www.nero.com/nero6/doc/LightScribe_eng.chm If the LightScribe function does not work in your LightScribe burner, please check the following settings: 1). In Windows, go to >Start >Settings >Control Panel >Administrative Tools >Services >LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service Right-click on "LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service", choose "Properties", go to "Startup type" and select "Automatic". The display under "Service status" has to be set to "Started". 2). In Windows, go to >Start >Settings >Control Panel >Administrative Tools >Local Security Policy >Local Policies >Security Options Double-click on the entry "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". Choose the option "Disabled". Confirm this change by clicking on "Apply” and "OK". If you use Windows XP Home, please try the following steps: Open the "Registry" by >clicking on “Start” in Windows >clicking on “Run” >typing in "regedit" into the field "Open" and verifying with "OK" Select the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon. Doubleclick the entry "allocatecdroms" and check if the value is set to "0". If not, please set it to "0". 3.) Stop and restart the service "LightScribe" in the control panel. In Windows select >Start >Settings >Control Panel >Administrative Tools >Services Now the Lightscribe function should be recognized. Please also change a setting of the Lightscribe service: Rightclick on the service "Lightscribe", select >Properties >Recovery Select the option "restart the service" in the field "first failure" The option "restart service after 1 minute" will now be activated. Confirm this setting with "Apply" and "OK".
