    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - just checked and your firmware is up to date, that version was released Sep 2nd. but that rewritable disc you're using can't be recognised by your burner. try another disc

    - the ATAPI drivers are not loaded correctly, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - just checking you meant to do multisession

    - the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's CMC but it's an example) of what it should look like -
    - see previous comment, try another disc

    - the ATAPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, this will be sorted by fixing DMA further up my reply

Creaky , on the behalf of all the members i'd like to thank u for ur effort all over around , ur very helpfull , thanks !! :)

1- Edited out my serial , sorry didnt notice it.

2- I loaded the ATAPI drivers.

Now things r much better , though only one remaining issue...my BenQ SOMETIMES detects the blank DVD-R and sometimes it doesnt( just like when u place a DVD-ROM in a CD drive) , it needs me to eject and re-enter it many times until it catch it. Thats not normal huh ?
    Am currently using LG DVD-Rs.

Another question for my own knowledge , what does the ATAPI has to do with DVD burning ?

    Thanks for ur time

    Cheers

cheers for the kind words. i don't do much else so sit on the PC being helpful. sad i know LOL but keeps me busy :)

as to ASPI there are various threads that say what it is/what does, all of which is far too dull to me, so i only ever mention it if it looks corrupt.

Well the what counts is that i upgraded the ATAPI whatever it does ! lol

About this issue ....." my BenQ SOMETIMES detects the blank DVD-R and sometimes it doesnt( just like when u place a DVD-ROM in a CD drive - it does nothing ) , it needs me to eject and re-enter it many times until it catch it. Thats not normal huh ? is that somehow should make me think thats a faulty burner ?!

Am currently using LG DVD-Rs and a single Sony DVD-RW.

    Thanks once more

I agree with these ppl ..lol

Last time am gonna get them ,well those r what i found in the store the time i bought my drive.

One last friendly Q... i saw in a post of urs , flattering the Lite-on drive , and from my limited knowledge i know that Lite-on and Sony are so close.

Frankly am still comparing my Benq 1620 pro vs Sony DRU-810A , i read more than a post that says there are the same, though am not a prof.

Whats ur opinion ? not only the techs , what about their history ? reputation ? media compatibility ?

N.B ; i know ur online now coz ur replying instantly , am logging off now , so if i didnt answer right now , dont just think i finished my questions...still got many to bother u with ;)

    regards

you're ok, if i don't answer, i always sort as many replies as i can when i get to work of a morning..

i've flattered the Sony DRU-700A, but i got syung by two bum Lite-on's - 1693S's dso i went off Litey's for now.. hence my move to LG...

the Sony 800A is a rebadged Lite-on 1693S, the 810A is a Benq 1640, other than that i'm no Benq expert, i just pick up what i can around the forums..

ps here's a good firmware page. it makes a very good reference for crosschecking which Lite-on's are rebadged as what

now that the 810A is a Benq, i don't know if all future Sony's will be Benq by the way, haven't read much more about that lately
