Nero was burning at my max of 40x untill i started a burn and then stopped it to add a few more songs.From that point on it has done a max of 16x and that is as high as it shows it can do now. I have uninstalled it reinstalled and still same thing.Nothing i do gives me back my 40x burn.. Thanks in advance ö¿ö -- ô¥ö
are the CD-R's you use rated for 16x only? Nero does know when you have media that can only burn at lower speeds and will throttle your speed accordingly.
VCDJunkie, Not _Nero_ actually but perhaps the drive has an automatic speed adjustment based on media quality.
just a few tips,have you: a) checked with other media b) checked for firmware update c) contacted the manufacturer? d) looked for known issues or FAQ's on their website hope it works out for you..
I have some 24x cds and they will burn at 40x it is just my 40x cds will not burn at 40x since that time i stopped then burn process eveytime i use one it burns at 16x now... Makes no sense to me

Sounds odd alright!! but with nero, it will automatically adjust the burning speed for the media type (especially vcd/audio), just to ensure that all goes well. 40x in my opinion is way to fast to burn audio!! Take cd-rw.org's and get cd speed, this should sort your problem and it will also dramatically reduce and buffer underruns you may encounter!
In Nero, go to "recorder / choose recorder", select your burner, then click "option". The automatic speed limitation is there. For example, with my Yamaha, it's called "optimum writespeed control". Other manufacturers can give other names. CDRs are most of the times badly recognized by the speed control. The speed certifications go up faster than the manufacturing stampers.
What's the rush? Are you intending on using these disks? You burn at these rates and they might work in standalones (for VCD) or car stereo (for Audio) but they won't last long. Paul.
just bought a tdk cyclone after reading so many positive things about it.....having a few problems though....nero cant see the read and write speeds correctly....says its only capable of 4 or 2 write speeds.....dl nero cd speed ....4 was the fastest again........nero ifo tool says its capable of 12x.....tried burning an image using nero.....cd was blank....dl patches .....still the same....last night briefly it read the write speeds and then changed it mind........lol......any help would be great.....please...... .....paul........
@racoutlaw: You could try reflashing the firmware, perhaps the drive "learned" from the bad burn that the discs aren't good for 40x but "only" 16x since the burn failed. Even if it's the same firmware version, it's worth a try.
I have looked for a firmware flash for the4 drive or anything but there is just no help on the HI-VAL website...I guess the thing here is not to buy another HI-VAL drive....Thanks for all the help on this problem everyone _______________________________________________ ö¿ö ö¿ô ô₧ö
Just from what i have noticed. I have a Hi-val 24x burner, Which is actually a Ricoh 24x , i forgot the model. But i would make sure of the model # off your burner and serach Ricoh's bios page and update it. Also after reading numerous articles about Ricoh burners, man ysuggest using Fuji media. I have used Ricoh burners since my first one that was a 4x. and then a 20x, and now my HI-Val (aka Ricoh). The Fuji work best for me and i also live by Nero and it all works perfectly. I am positive that is is a ricoh manufactured drive, but i can be wrong. I would check out there site for updates.
