Urge to kill...Rising! I just tried to burn the 5th DVD out of my brand new 16x DVD-R Spindle from Memorex and I keep getting an error message stating that I cannot burn to my DVD-R. **Please, for the love of God, what do I need to do to find out how to FREAKING fix this? Here is what i have for now: I have a Sony DVD RW DRU 710A. I am running Windows XP Home Edition (5.01.2600 Service Pack 2), Nero Aspi Library 2.0.1.56 Ahead Software AG, Nero Burning ROM Version 6.0.0.0 and 2.0.0.4 (whatever the hell that means- it's listed on a seperate line under the Software tab, on the NeroInfoTool window of Nero). I access Nero's SmartStart program to get the above info. If I try to access the Nero Burning ROM program, I get a notice that the version of Nero that i have may not be compatible with my version of Windows. My goal here is to take some .avi files I have and burn them to DVD-R so I can play them on my Playstation 2 as a movie. My test burn involves burning some really some mpeg fies, since I cannot find small .avi files and I'm not gonna wait 2 hours for it to transcode the smallest .avi file I have available. Thanks. I have no experience playing burned DVDs on a PS2, so anyone with additional experience, please speak up. Now, this is a rhetorical question, but how in the world can there be such a tenuous (sp?) relationship between a burner and the disk media? It would seem like someone out there should have a GREAT opportunity to make DVDs and CDs that actually WORK in any drive you put them in. I am loathe to go out to the store and shell out more money for something that should work the first time. Very frustrating. I've never had this problem burning CDs over the last 5 years with the last 2 burners I had. GRRRRR!

A-HA! I got it to work! I updated the firmware for the DVD drive and it all works perfectly. The DVD even plays in my PS2! Yay! Two final questions: 1) Is it supposed to take 2 hours to Transcode a 45 minute video clip before it is burned to the DVD? If not, how do I speed up the process? 2) How much is one sacrificing video quality if you go from Standard Play to Long Play? Thanks a bunch for your help. The next set of DVD's I buy will be the ones you mentioned.
