I noticed something today that seems very odd to me. All of my backup DVDs that I've made using Nero recode to create an image and burning rom to burn the image are still open. I didn't notice this when I was making them because when you try the burn the nrg file the options for "finalize disk" and write mode are grayed out. It says its using disk-at-once to write the disk, but the grayed out "finalize disk" box is not checked. I'm a little annoyed by this because I'm not sure how many devices will be able to read the backup DVDs other than a computer. Any input on why Nero does this would be appreciated (this is Nero 7, btw, not sure if older versions did this).
I use Nero Recode quite often to back up my movies and have NEVER had to use "finalize disk" and I can assure you ALL the back ups work perfectly on ALL my standalone players. I also refuse to use Disc at once.
Let me describe what I'm doing to better describe what's going on. I use recode and choose "image recorder" as my destination. It creates a nero image (.nrg). I then launch nero burning rom and burn the image to a disk (I do this so I can use data verification on the disk). When I choose record image and select the file, the normal screen comes up, but both "finalize disk" and "write method" are grayed out. When the disk burns and I check info on the disk, it says the disk is open. When I try the disk in my PS2, it doesn't play. If, instead, I burn the image file with ImgBurn and check the disk it says its closed, and it plays fine in the PS2 (same media). I have checked this issue with Nero on two different computers with two different versions of Nero and they both do the same thing.
another update, it works fine if I burn the image with nero express. "Finalize disk" is checked and it closes the disk. I think this might be a bug in Nero Burning ROM. It also doesn't do it when burning any other image file type, just nrg files.
