I used TMPGenc to encode the movie demuxed the AC3 audio file from the original avi file before encoding the video, i then authored with TMPGenc DVD Author 1.6 adding the .AC3 audio to the encoded video file. I then attempted to burn using Nero but got the burn unsuccessful window 6 minutes into the burn. Here is the log from Nero. Can anyone tell from the log what i have done wrong? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

You have some memory hungry resources running in the background, not much 'gogo' room to play with.

I would suggest you stop some of your processes (multitasking), this will help, but may not cure...................

Have you managed to use this burner to burn anything else with Nero, as it also appears there is a comms issue between Nero and your burner.

    Uninstall/reinstall your burner.

Download Nero's cleantool and uninstall Nero and clean it up.

    http://www.nero.com/eng/Clean_Tools.html

Reinstall, do not install the InCD option.

Also disable Windows internal burning option, open my computer, right click on your burner, click on properties, click on recording and disable there.

See if that helps any, but I would recommend you find out what programs are running in the background and stop them....................

Thanks baabaa, I have used the MATSHITA UJ-820D successfuly with Nero before, however I think you hit the nail on the head here.....i had far to many things going on in the background. I disabled some stuff, also disabled the windows burner and had a successful burn with Nero. Thanks for your assistance! Thanks also to Rotary for his DivxtoDVD advice i will try this method for future files. :)

Just in case you continue to have issues, I have noticed some other things here that might need attention. First is ASPI
You have a Nero ASPI but no Windows ASPI. This could be a problem, but then again it may not be. If you don't continue to have problems, I'd say just leave it alone.
This is an outdated version of Nero. They are up to 6.6.0.13 I think, I use 6.6.0.12. I'd update this whether you have problems or not.
This along with all of this:
makes me think the computer is having issues with the burner. The ASPI thing may solve this, the Nero update may also.

Have you done any successful burns with this drive before? Also, I noticed your media says RitekG - 04. Mine say Ritek G04 (no dash). I suspect mine as being fakes, maybe this is an indicator?? Are you using the Ridata or just regular Ritek?

Hello squizzle, tanks for the input although much of what you mention is lost on me i`m afraid.....I have no clue what `aspi` means let alone how to correct it or add it or whatever lol. I am not computer literate. I stagger along reading the various guides on Afterdawn to accomplish whatever particular task i am attempting......just learning as i go along....mostly through making mistakes and (hopefully) learning from them.

Regarding my media (your refering to my blank DVD-R yes?) I have never even heard of Ritek I dont know why it should show up on my log? I used Maxell single sided DVD-R bought from PC World here in the UK.

I have never had any problems with Nero before this particular burn, it always worked well in conjuction with the Matshita burner.

Like i said previously thanks for the input, but for fear of meddling with stuff i know nothing about (aspi) I think it best i left well alone in case i screw things up completely, knowing me thats more than a 99% probability lol

Nero 6.6.0.0 was what i was using flawlessly for a long time until a few weeks ago. I had no reason to upgrade, just thought it was about time i did so.

ASPI - download it here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm and run it.

If you really want you can run Nero's info-tool and click on the aspi tab afterwards and it will show everything to be fine-

...i missed something - the Ritek question -

Download dvdinfopro (free) and run a media info check (2nd icon from top left in dvdinfopro). One of the things you will see is the media ID code In this example -

    Maxell DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)

    - it's a Ritek g03 disk. Now i'm no Ritek expert as i don't use them (well not knowingly anyway). No real reason, i just prefer to stick to verbatim datalifeplus.

I use Verbatim 8speed DVD-R primarily, and their media code is MCC02RG20 or similar. (However some Verbatim discs have a media code of CMC MAG or whatever and they're atrocious). Anyway i digress, the point is that the media code gives a better clue as to who made a disc and/or the quality of the disc can be better established

    Hope that helps

Ritek used to be a pretty reputable company, but lately their quality is mixed. Most store bought media isn't made by who is on the label (eg Memorex can be made by a handful of manufacturers, and all of which can be found in the same batch of discs, but most of them are crap). I am currently questioning my own Ritek G04 discs, as creaky and a few others know.

Follow up on the ASPI thing (check the link that creaky gave you), here is an excerpt from a thread explaining ASPI a bit, hopefully it helps:

[bold]<11>What is ASPI and do I need it?
The term 'ASPI' is an acronym that stands for: Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. All the following terms are synonymous: ASPI layer, ASPI drivers, ASPI interface. The term 'SCSI' [scuzzy] is an acronym that stands for Small Computer Systems Interface. An ASPI layer consists of four files that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware]. Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin use/require ASPI drivers to 'communicate with' SCSI devices. Many people don't realize however, that the files contained in an ASPI layer are also used in systems that *don't* contain a SCSI adapter, or SCSI devices .. for things such as ripping CD audio and burning CD/DVDs.

ok, no worries, i just find the whol ASPI thing annoying. I'm still not 100% whether it's needed in XP, no matter how many times i read up on it, i'm still none the wiser.

I've always installed it and it doesn't make things worse, plus i never read about installing it making problems so that's good enough for me. Basically as long as it's not corrupted, it should be fine.

LOL, yes they provide such an efficient aftersales support, any problems or issues you get, you always receive an immediate response, polite, and satisfactory.

Good competitive prices, and provide you with all the information you require.

To make a good company, the aftersales makes it for me, no matter who you are, you will encounter issues, and they operate in such a professional manner, I'll never use anyone else.

I have been using them for a couple of years now for most my media and other stuff, to tell you the truth, I have never found another company that has such good working practises.
