Here is my log using Nero Version: 6.6.0.6....
I am not sure if this is the right forum for this topic
so if it's not please direct me to the right one...

    System specs:
XP PRO SP2/Mandrake 10.1 ****DUAL BOOT***
    Iwill KA266+
AOpen DUW 1608 burner w/ latest firmware
    Seagate 160gig
    Seagate40gig
    GFfx5200agp
    SBLive! value
    1024gig crucial PC2100 ram
    AMD 1.2 proc.
    linksys nic card

I can burn DVD'S in Linux no problem and CD'S in
    both XP and Linux.
but when I try to burn DVD'S in XP this is happening.
BTW it just started happening and reinstalling
NERO **AFTER** removing all traces of it in the
registry as well as uninstalling does no good.

THIS WAS DONE AS A SIMULATION TO GET THIS LOG....

    Thanks all!!

ALI takes care of that. (i don't understand why NERO shows it as OFF)
And I have removed those and tried to use M$ basic IDE
    drivers with little success.
The last time I went to DEVICE MNGR and removed ALI IDE DRIVERS
my system locked and I had to use ERD commander to get what I
could off the drives before reinstalling both systems.
    GOOD TIMES.....not

ALI IDE drivers seem to be the problem
but how to SAFELY remove these and allow
XP to use the standard IDE drivers just to
see if thats REALLY the problem is beyond me.
Under DEV MNGR it shows the ALI IDE drivers
but it also shows PRI/SEC IDE channels that have
    a yellow exclamation mark...(CODE 12).

    Thanks again

Just tried to remove ALI IDE DRIVERS from add/remove...
locked my sys up hard and had to kill power.

tried that three time (even in safe-mode)....no luck.

    hmmmm....

How about writing it to the Hard Drive as an Image file, just to see if this process works. If it does, then I would agree that the issue is related to the IDE Controller and its settings.

Are you using any Acceleration settings or features? Have you tried to change it to PIO Mode only just to see if this works? Normally we recommend using DMA, but I've seen some other cards have this same problem of reporting DMA as OFF and setting to PIO MODE solved the issue for one IDE Controller that shows this symptom.

    IMG file works fine...
    not using any accelerated setting....
Can't change any settings as far as
    PIO or DMA....
when I run the ALI utility it just shows
what things are running and does not allow you to
    change anything.

What card are you refering to????

I've had a few customers with the Promise IDE controller show this issue, and one other IDE card that fails to come to mind right now.

    Hi PCMatt,

I never said you were running a Card, I was only giving you an Example of similar issues I've seen before. :)

You do have an IDE Controller though.

    K...got ya..
I found out what the problem was though (I think)
I could not reinstall chipset drivers .
I could not update them either. (whenever I did my system would lock).
It finally would not allow me to even boot into windows.
Thank god I had linux installed as well.
Anyways, I saved what I could and whiped the drive clean
    and started over.
Thats when I discovered that by hooking both hard drvies onto
the primary IDE channel and setting both drives as cable select
caused the 160gig to run in PIO mode.
(before I had the 160 and my Aopen DVD burner on the same channel.)
THAT caused both the DVD drive and the 160 to run in PIO mode..???

I guess ALI had some sort of limitation on drive larger than 137.
    Maybe i'm wrong...I dont know.
But I hooked the 160 up to a IDE controller card (Fasttrack I think)
and I'm good to go. (UDMA5)
