First let me say hello as this is my first post. I've been using this site for a while and it has helped me I don't know how many times. I'd be lost if it wasn't for the guidance the senior members provide here. So thank you. Usually I can find the answer for what I'm looking for using the search function. But I came across something I can't figure out. I've used DVD Shrink for a while now and lately I started using Nero Recode 2 for larger compressions because of the speed. I was backing up Superman Returns and when I ran it through Recode the size finishes at 4512MB instead of 4459MB like it should have. Let me explain what I did first. I ran the movie through Ripit4me to my HDD. Then I went to do Main Movie through Recode. I usually only select English DD for languages and set the target at DVD-5 4.7G. It shows the file should be 4459MB. I do Advance Analysis and High Quality Mode at High Priority. Once it finishes I go to Nero Express to burn it to a TY DVD-R 8X. But that's when it shows the size is 4,512MB and exceeds the disc size. I did this twice before going back and using DVD Shrink which worked fine. I realize I could probably set my target lower or just use Shrink but I wanted to get some input if anyone else has experienced something like this or what I might be doing wrong.
usually if you get a bigger file (more than 4489) then it's encryptions that is causing it..... like unreferenced video and such that causes the bigger file....... when running RipIt4Me did you check the boxes off for FixVTS to run? this should solve your problem..... follow this guide:\ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110, and you can also do it this way, download the programs and follow the guide: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/all_blog_entries.cfm?month=01&year=2006 I did Superman Returns without a hitch with RipIt4Me and then used DVDRebuilder Pro with CCE instead of shrink or recode. nice job, too.
Yes, I have 'run FixVTS' checked as well as to 'run in place' and 'remove unreferenced video'. I've used the RipIt4me guide by arniebear many times with success as well as guides for other methods provided by members like alkohol. I was able to process it successfully using other methods so I guess I should just be happy I got it done. I was just wondering if anyone knew what might have caused Recode to process a larger file than the anticipated target size of 4459MB. Thanks for the help.
ahhhhhhhh thought that it was the encryptions that made it larger like Alkohol's guide with THE FOG. did you check out this guide..... it shows that Recode has a bigger file than what is needed: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/all_blog_entries.cfm?month=01&year=2006
Just read it. Never saw anything saying 'not compressable'. I did notice he used a custom target of 4,440MB. I'll probably try it again with that. Like I said, I should just be happy I got it done. I guess I have a problem letting things go.
well....... if Recode starts giving you problems...... then I would reinstall your Nero! what version do you have? Some versions of Nero are buggy. I stick with Nero 6.6.0.18..... it does everything and it's very stable .... no bugs.... and it's the last version of Nero 6 that has LightScribe and also automatic setting for burning when Shrink finishes.
