OK. This is my first time on this forum so please bear with me. Hopefully I'm in the right place to post. OK, here goes the problem. Nero recode 2 and (same for nero express). Today I wanted to burn a movie (already decrypted) using Nero Express and when I put in the movie it ripped the movie and proceeded to write to a disk (Phillips DVD -R 1-8x). It got to 73% I think and "write error" came up and ejected the disk. I didnt save the log because I was mad. GRRRRRR!! Ok so what I did was try to burn the same movie with Nero Recode. I wanted to make 2 copies this time. It proceeded to rip the movie and successfully burned the first copy on the same brand of blank dvd I mentioned before. When it came to the second copy.........got to 73% again and you guess it, write error. This time I saved the log and decided to come and find some help. I tinkered around on nero and I went to Nero Info Tool. I found that the ASPI was on System ASPI and there was a yellow bar at the bottom that said it wasnt installed. I opened the drop down list and when I chose Nero ASPI, this is what it said: "WNASPI32.DLL, VER. 2.0.1.74, LENGTH 164112, DATE NOV 2, 04" and a green bar says ASPI installed and working properly. Now I did change it to Nero ASPI before and had no write error. When the write error came up again, I checked it and it was back to System ASPI. Is it changing on its own or do I have to change it every single time??? Also, I tried to update my firmware on my computer. I downloaded it and it wouldnt update. Not sure of the message but I think it said it wasnt recognizing the dvd drive (dont quote me on that). Somebody help. Hi smooches Here's some suggestions for you: 1st let's edit out the serial # - it begins w/ 1A and is under this in the log Writing to disc: DVD-R - listed 2x in the log. Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S>Version: BPSA Drive come w/ the PC? You can cross flash it to official LiteOn firmware - will void any warranty if there is by some chance still one on the drive. Use the patched BSOY firmware. Here can get it here. CdRomPeripheral : ASUS CD-S480/A5 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160M0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off Get DMA turned back on for these drives. Here's a guide. Physical memory : 503MB Free physical memory: 72MB Memory in use : 85 Way too much memory in use. Close any unneeded programs. I'd do a disc up and system defrag too. Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1 Not the best and can definitely be hit or miss. Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. For these discs try taking the burn speed down a notch or 2. File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS' Roxio and Nero doesn't always play well so you can uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool to completely remove. For the aspi you are okay there with Nero saying not installed. Nero in these logs is using Windows SPTI. That's fine - you have 1 failure and 1 success that I don't think is being caused by this - more likely a combo of the above suggestions. To change it in recode when you open Recode click on 'more' - it's in the ;file i/o' tab. But I stick with system one for now. So give those a go and let us know.
Hi thanks for taking a look at my problem. Well for one the dvd drive did come with the computer and I am currently looking for a replacement and an external one also. I did a disk clean up and a defrag. As far as a warranty, its probably over anyway due to the fact that its almost 2 years old. I did the dma resolution too. Once I did everything. The first burn was wonderful. The second not so wonderful. It ripped the movie and when it started to burn, it burned halfway and write error came up again. And I forgot to save the file again. I'm going to try to burn something again and when I get the error report this time I will save it and post here. In the meantime, any suggestions on what to do???? I will try anything while I still have a few strands of hair left. BTW, I have no probs burning music (found that out today. Much faster than WinMedia Player)
Not a problem there smooches May want to crossflash this drive to the 'true' LiteOn w/ the patched firmware since you are looking at getting another. Runs a little risk but may just do the trick. I'd still try different media like the ones listed above. Worst case it fails you would just use them in the new drives. Usually the dvd burning goes before the cd burning but still need to rule out the media you are using which is CMC and not the best by far. Post the log when you get a chance.
Also, when I went to turn on my DMA through the device manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I have 2 listings for primary IDE channel and one secondary IDE controller. Is that ok?
Yes I think you're ok on the primary showing 2x - one probably shows nothing connected to it. The risk is possibly frying the drive. Runs some risk - usually if the power is cut off unexpectedly. Only takes a few minutes. When flashing the drive have no programs running, no discs in the drive and keep the power on. I won't do it during a thunderstorm
