Since the half way mark in Version 7 updates, Recode has been slowing down, and is now at such a ridiculous speed from 120+f.p.s, to about 21 f.p.s, that I have gone back from nero 8.3.....to nero 7.8.5.0. I have pointed this out to Nero, who admit to having duplicated the problem but had no workaround for it, suggesting that there might just be one with the next update. Which is a bummer, since there have been so many updates to version 8, that their next step will have to be version 9, and that will have to be paid for, again.
You might want to do a clean install of your OS and install Nero 8. I have no problems with Nero 8 Recode, I am getting around 700-800 fps.
There was little time to go a complete reinstall of the O.S, which is Vista Ultimate. The copy of Nero 8.3.2.....was then reinstalled, to get me the ultimate in FPS. 27 and counting. So, I have had to go back to Version 8.1.1.4, which lets me have up to 150 FPS. You must have a secret, there, Racer, to achieve 700. Now I am jealous.
Has anyone seen a fix for this? Like the OP, my Recode speeds (from MP2 to MP4 ("standard" profile), for example) on Vista went down from 80-110 fps to 12-25 fps when I "upgraded" to Nero 8. Nero support acknowledged the problem but no fix has appeared. If others are getting faster recode speeds with different settings perhaps they could share the secret...
In this case I think the power issue is a red herring: 1. Massive slowdown on the same computer; fixed by reverting to Nero 7 2. Plenty of power (Intel Core2 quad cpu Q6700 @2.67Ghz, 4Gb ram)
I use DVD Shrink and DVD2One. I left Nero in the dust many moons ago and I'm also running a quad core machine with 2 gigs of RAM. DVD Shrink is very fast and DVD2One is even faster...as far as fps goes, I've not noticed as I'm usually doing something else while I transcode, but the norm is 6 to 10 minutes for completion of project.
Sorry, I am getting 700-800fps burst. I am averaging around 200-250fps sustained. I am also using Windows XP Pro SP3. I will try it on my Vista machine with SP1.
I just ran Nero Recode got a burst speed of 700+fps and average of 500-600fps on my Windows XP Pro SP3 Desktop. I am in the process of running recode on my Vista Home Premium SP1 on my laptop.
I just finished with Nero 8 Recode on my Vista SP1 laptop. I averaged around 200fps and burst speed up to 400fps. The movie is around 6GB, and finished the job with no errors under 7 minutes. For those having issues with Vista and Nero 8 Recode, I would recommend by looking at what services are running and shut them down or try this on a complete clean install of the OS and Nero 8 (Latest version).
I just ran Nero 8 Recode again for giggles and I got the same results. It finished in 6:58 min:sec the same movie. I am posting the log file from the results of my Vista SP1 laptop. ********** Nero Recode ********** Version: 3.1.4.0 Project type: Copy entire DVD Compilation name: HOLLYWOODLAND Target size: DVD5 (2282925) 14:28:54 File LangStreamPatcher.cpp, Line 56 Command table patching started... 14:28:54 File LangStreamPatcher.cpp, Line 97 VTS 1 - VTS_PGCITI - PGC 1 patched! 14:28:54 File LangStreamPatcher.cpp, Line 129 All tables successfully patched! Ah, although I'm not expert at Nero logs I think we have a miscommunication here. My problem is with recoding to MP4 (aka Nero Digital) - it looks as though you are using the copy-to-DVD option ... no wonder it is so fast. Try encoding main title to Nero Digital, standard or AVC, and see how that goes. I haven't reinstalled it on my big machine today so it's not a fair test but on my dual-core laptop I am getting 35fps when encoding from MPEG2 (TV broadcasts recorded with GB-PVR and run through Quick Stream Fix with VideoReDo), and 37-45 when recoding from DVD. I don't have the data to hand but recall it was much faster with Nero 7.
If you are using Recode for Nero Digital conversion then I am getting the same results as you are. I am sorry for the communications problem.
