    Hi Guys,

I'm using the DVD Decrypter & then Nero Recode Nero 7.11.10.0 for creating DVDs

I never had any problems with that whether that is "normal" or DL media
but recently I came across the following issue when :

DVD Decrypter created a folder from Dual Layer DVD (no protection)
The size is usual - 7.8GB and there are 14 files in the folder
but this time when I was trying to create DVD Nero shows 2 titles 4.6GB each and the quality ~50% for each (!?) that cannot fit since the total size is ~9.6GB

Previously I was recording 4-5 titles from DL DVDs with 100% quality of each title

    How come?

Just in case I am using Verbatim 4x DVD-R DL media

    Thanks in advance

    p.s.
a separate question : is it possible to choose separate titles and write them on non-dual layer media (that feature is not available in Nero...at least I couldn't find that)

this is not the way to make copies of modern dvd's

decrypter is obsolete.. and nero DrecodeM ?? .. why??.. no need for that at all to make a copy of one dvd onto another.. at all.. shrink would do a better job if all you want to do is make something fit the disk.. and nero can't burn d/l disks properly either.. in fact I don't know why people even use it at all these days.

if you are authoring your own then dvd-flick is the way forward.. but only if you are making up multi title disks.. dvd fab hd is the tool to rip/copy bought disks.. with it's friend imgburn .. see.. no need for nero bloatware drm nightmare broken by design software.

adding more than 2 1/2 hours of runtime to a standard s/l dvd causes bad quality loss.

...so hard not to say something...For cryin'out'loud, I just hope I see the day people would do some reading, and all these stupid "can't backup my DVD, I'm using DVD Decrypter" threads would just magically dissapear...
DVD Decrypter? Really? Wake up, is 2010. DVDFab is what you need.
As for Nero Recode:)...I actually find it to be one of the better parts of the entire Nero crapware. Out of all the 100's of DVDs I backed up, I maybe used DVD Shrink on 5% of them, the rest all done with Nero Recode. Never had a problem. I find it more efficient than DVD Shrink.
However, I wouldn't buy and install Nero just for that, when all can be done with excellent free stuff.
But if you DO have Nero, I would recommend Recode.
    .
And yes, "is it possible to choose separate titles and write them on non-dual layer media" using Nero Recode.

    Hi Guys,

    First thank you for replies.

Sure I do have all Tools mentioned and I am using them in different circumstances.
Dvd-flick was not used often to be honest.

But probably I did not stress the question and why I was curios:

Why that one and only 7.8GB DL dvd is seen as 9.6GB and therefore could not be written?

As for using Decrypter and or DVD Fab : I am not a copy machine :)
I just getting some titles occasionally.
This set of DL DVDs had no protection but the region code so I could not play 1:1 copy in my old “on-top player” It did not matter to me which one ( Decrypter and or DVD Fab) to use. All worked perfectly

As for the quality of Nero Recode I have to agree with cyprusrom – if it says 100% fit – there is no loss of quality

But there is more with that particular 7.8-->9.6GB DVD
If I use ImgBurn I have “cannot set the layer break position...” message

note: I know that sometime the can be "fixed" by writing to DVD+R DL, but my on-top player is old and does not read +R even if Booktype is set (it will start playing though but then the playback will break in few ~30 seconds after the introduction screen & menu)

So I looked closer and found that that particular DVD didn't have the region code set ... hmmm ...
As a result I just made a copy from on DVD drive to another using Nero and the same media (actually the same particular disk were ImgBurn failed) … and that was it.

Basically sometimes it doesn't matter whether we are using “old fashion / outdated but proven solutions or more contemporary . Sure there latter is better and the way to go.

Therefore my question remains the same regarding the cause of seeing ripped copy (files or ISO) as 9.6GB

    Thanks again
    Best wishes

    p.s.
    cyprusrom,
Can you please refer where I can read “how to?”, please

Instead of "Recode Main Movie To DVD" or "DVD to DVD",You have to choose the "author" mode, "Compile a DVD".

You'll be able to select the titles you want, if you have more than one ,you can merge them into a single title(something that DVD Shrink cannot do).
