When i burn a file using recode dvd and video to nero digital, and try to play it on my pc i am getting picture but no sound. Could someone please help.
Thank you for your reply. The reason why i am using THE NERO DIGITAL function is that i e mailed NERO technical support on advice on how to remove black bars round the top and bottom of a movie i try and play on my tv and they advised to encode in N DIGITAL keeping the settings for CROP and RESIZE at automatic burn and then use NERO VISION to convert back to DVD and that will fix my problem. Unfortunately since i first posted to you i tried to use NERO VISION it would not reconise the file so doing what was advised does not work. Firstly it leaves no sound secondly it does not reconise file.Is there any alternitive to get rid of these black bars which is what i want. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Why not resize in Nero Vision instead of using Recode/Nero Digital? Sounds like you are simply changing from widescreen (16:9) to full screen (4:3), which you can do in Nero Vision. BTW, the files that come out of Nero Digital are compatable (.mp4) with Nero Vision. .mp4 is listed as one of the Nero Vision supported files. It would be helpful to mention the source/size/file type of your video. Make sure your audio is present at each step of any process you are using. Using both Nero Digital and Nero Vision will mean encoding twice which will take several hours. Thats why I'd try and avoid that. To change aspect ratios in Nero Vision select "More" > Video Options > DVD-Video and set it to 4:3. I can be more specific if I know what you are starting out with.
Thank you for your attention and help to resolve this problem i have tried simply putting APR to 4.3 but it makees no difference that is first thing i did. It is at present 16.9 widescreen. I have checked audio before burning and it is ok. There s something strange happening when i use recode because properties after burning says it is a mp4 file and i can play it using VLC media player but not nero showtime. Also as i say it will not accept the file in VISION EXPRESS. I have done abolutely nothing with file except put it in RECODE and set all the settings at AUTO as advised by technical support. Your comments would be appreciated
I'm checking all of this by using the very latest version of Nero 7 so make sure your Nero is up to date. My Nero Vision version is 4.7.0.9. When you change the aspect ratio, a pop up will ask if you want this to become the default. Select Yes will insure that the new aspect ratio stays selected. I notice that it tends to jump back to the default setting when you continue through the process. 4:3 is the ratio you want if viewing on a regular television. More on Aspect Ratios: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image) My current Nero can play the .mp4 with Showtime. I am starting to think that your Nero is missing something. You may want to do a reinstall. You could always try another program as well. ConvertXtoDVD would work well for this. Simply load whatever file format you have and change the TV Format to 4:3.
My NERO is 6.6.1.4 this is latest to NERO 7. I set that at 4:3 as APR because that is always what want as i have just a standard TV. Its baffling
I normally just watch whatever format the movie happens to be in but it can be changed. I've got Nero 6 on my other PC so I'll have to look at it and see. You should update your Nero 6. This may solve your sound issues. Update Nero from here, both packages... Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 : http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe
I have NVE 3.1.0.25 on my other PC and was able to change aspect ratios with Recode/Digital and add the .mp4 files to Nero Vision. The 3.1.0.21 version is supposed to be better but this version is working fine for me. FYI that "_no_yt" shown on the update download links means that these versions do not have the Yahoo Toolbar added to them.
I'm more confused at present i have latest update omn my pc 3.1.0.25 are you reccommending me to replace it with older version
Let me back up a bit. From your post I see two problems and an issue with your approach. 1. Cannot use Nero to get rid of black bars above and below the picture. 2. No audio present on results. Approach issue: Following Nero support's advice to use Nero Digital for something that NeroVision can do with a lot less encoding/processing. What I did first was to duplicate the method that Nero Support suggested: I took a clip from a DVD and then processed it through Recode/Nero Digital. I managed to change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3. The video now had a .mp4 file extension. To convert the .mp4 to DVD-Video, I used Nero Vision. I could see that the .mp4 format was supported. The end result was that my clip was converted back to DVD-Video and now had the new 4:3 aspect ratio, the audio was present. I then did the process again, this time not using Recode/Nero Digital. I changed the aspect ratio using Nero Vision. Again the results were a clip with a changed aspect ratio and working audio. I then found that you were using Nero 6. So I repeated these tests with my Nero 6. Again, I was able to successfully change the aspect ratio and keep the audio. So this is telling me that there is a problem with your Nero. If I can do this and you cannot, then that seems logical. That is the reasoning I'm using to have you remove your currently installed versions and install the known bug free versions I provided links to. They may not be the latest versions but they are the least buggy versions. Remove your currently installed version completely using the Nero CleanTool utility: http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html Older versions do not install over newer versions unless removed completely. This utility does that. Often Nero becomes corrupted. The fix for that is to remove it and reinstall. This will correct the corrupted files and replace missing or misplaced files. So by installing the known bug free versions you will accomplish that as well. That is why I'd like you to install version 3.1.0.21, replacing your newer 3.1.0.25. It would be very helpful if you could post a Nero log. Take a look here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log Copy/Paste into a reply. Remove your Nero serial number. It usually starts with 1a23 or something like that. At one point I asked you to tell me the source/size/file type of your video. I'm still waiting for that.
Thank you Frank for your time and patience i truly appreciate it. I have to go away on business for a few days so i will follow your advice to the letter. I agree with your logic that if everything is working with your tests then there must be something corrupt with mine. I apoligise if i sound a bit tetchy it is just frustration and ignorance but i cannot emphasise enough i appreciate any help that i am given by you or anyone else
Yep it can be frustrating. Most of us here have been down that road one time or another. I've been here at AD for some time now and have seen quite a few pissed off, frustrated people. You have been willing to listen and that means everything. Apology not needed in your case. I'm subscribed to this thread so when you do post again I'll be able to get back with you. Cheers, Frank
Hello Frank i am back was longer than expected only difference i can sort textile machinery probs out lol. Well i do all you instructed as far as re installing Nero to your recommendations good and bad news. Good news first this solved sound probs and also being able to use vision with mpeg4 files but i cannot remove black bands round video. I have used recode option setting all settings at auto and then the file i got used it in vision with aspect ratio set at 4.3. When played there was black band. I used vision on its own with a setting of both auto and 4.3 AR still black band The file i am using is a DVD called SEABISCUIT which i had to Decrypt using Shrink it is in DVD VOB format according to G-spot. I have looked for AHEAD HISTORY LOG in my PROGRAMME Files and cannot find it Any actions i done tonight i saved as log files but i tried to copy and paste these with no success. Please excuse my lack of PC knowledge and your comments would again be appreciated
Lets back waaaay up and look at why you want to change the aspect ratio in the first place. This is to get rid of the black bands, top and bottom right? As you are finding out this is a damn big job and the correct end results are about what you are getting. The reason you are getting the bands all around now is because the aspect ratio has changed to 4:3. The fix for this (Thanks larrylje!) is to use the remote on your TV and zoom in a bit until the bands are gone......something you could have easily done with the original 16:9 aspect ratio. This may be an exersize in futility as far as doing this with Nero is concerned. It is not going to ever give you a satisfactory conversion just because it has to work with the original screen size as the maximum sizing. You can chop off the ends to achive the correct aspect ratio but now the whole thing is to small and Nero just can't stretch it to fit. I'm learning about this too, for som reason aspect ratio questions seem to be popping up more and more. Using the TV remotes' Zoom feature seems like the simplest, best answer..... for now. I'll see if I can't find more info on getting this correct. It may simply be a limitation of Nero.
thank you for your speedy reply really appreciate it. My tv is about 6 years old and its remote does not have a zoom feature obvious question is can i accquire a remote for it.
PS i did not notice your comment about me getting black bands all round picture now because i am not whatever i do it remains status quo in other words no change
The zoom function should be on your DVD players' remote. My old $35.00 Emerson, my nice Pioneer both have it. I called a couple of people and one has it and another, a JVC, does not. So yours might.... I hope. I started the movie Syriana, wide screen, in my Pioneer and zoomed it. It does a perfect widescreen to full screen conversion. Just that easy. If yours does not zoom then that would be a feature to make sure you get on a new one.
Hi Frank my remote does not have zoom but finally succeeded in getting want i wanted. You will laugh and gasp lol at the measures i took but here goes for your comments and info purposes. I transferred the DVD files to AVI using AutoGK a free programme. Then using Arcsoft Video Impression2 a video editing programme which i have had for a few years i run it through that using a 4:3 ratio. I then used NERO VISION EXPRESS in the normal way putting it into DVD on my HD and then burnt it onto to a disc using NERO BURNING ROM and when i played it on my TV was full screen. I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you for your help and patience and pointing my nose in the general direction but would still like to know if there is any other method
That's good enough for me! BTW, I've been looking a every DVD player remote control I can find and so far I've found the Zoom button on every one. Most of the time the owners could not find it. I put in a widescreen movie, select Zoom and there it is. That fast. It amazes people who didn't know they could do that. I think you gained quite a bit of knowledge by doing this conversion and that makes it all worth it. Cheers! Frank
