Using all latest updates from Nero.
Everytime I try to rip a dvd to file it goes along nice and quick, but eventually stops at some point. DVD in the drive stops spinning and writing to HD stops. Tried different movies, same thing. Lost of disk space, ram, etc. ???

nero recode doesn't crack css, i don't think. That is why you need to rip it first with decrypter, shrink, smartripper, etc.

Not sure if it was that Nero can't crack css or if it was something else. I'm new at this, with Recode anyway. Tried other type of DVD ripping to CD burning.....too time consuming and unsatisfactory. Thought I would give Recode a try as I use Nero anyway and it seemed user-friendly and fast. It was fast until it crapped out. So I found some info that suggested ripping with DVD Decrypter first, then pointing to the ripped files in Recode. That worked fine, but took two hours. Not bad I guess. Results were very good, except sound crackled a bit during loud passages (used 5.1 maybe that was why?)
    Will experiment some more....
Anything else play the mp4 file other than Nero Showtime. Any standalone dvd unit paly mp4? Mine doesn't.

Recode cant rip copy protected DVDs, so since you have to use something else to rip try DVDShrink 3.1, which will do a similar job and writes the compressed version to DVD with Nero6
