I am trying to do a straight DVD to DVD copy with nero. When I insert a blank DVD+R, nero reports not enough space on medium. the dvd im trying to copy is only 1.38GB. ive also tried to copy other dvds. still wont work. ive tried different makes of blank dvds's. still nothing.
I have tried updating to Nero 5.5.10.7, still nothing.
now close to smashing my pc with a hammer, please help....

If you need an exact copy of a disc, why not use decrypter? Easy peasy, japaneasy. ISO mode.

    Thanks for replying guys.

Ive tried dvd decrypter (along with recordnowmax and a couple of other progams) and they have problems reading the discs, is get a PX engine error every time. and Ive tried 5 different dvds.
Nero is the only one which reads the disc all the way through, but then I get this problem.
I assume Nero does recognise my recorder as I have managed to record other dvds, no problem.
Someone, please help as this is really, really getting to me now!!!!

fire up nero...under extras at the top...i believe...you should see "auto detect CD ROM". you'll need a dvd in it...click on it and follow the instructions..you'll need the installation disc for this. also, you'll have to do this every time you upgrade nero. forgot to ask...did you install it...is it a slave or master? mike

I cant see what auto-detecting the cd-rom will do, as i am not using this its my dvd recorder im using (phillips dvd+rw-d28)

and it is definately a dvd+r recorder.

one thing i maybe is that im recording from a dvd-r to a dvd+r?

    anyone any ideas????????

thanks but I cant even read the disks with dvd decryptor or recordnow max. i get a read error at the same point on the disk each time. i thought it was a scratch or something, but the bisk is brand new and ive tried about 5 different discs and they all do the same. nero is the only program which actually reads the full discs. one thing i did think it was is the dvd-r are 4,707,000 KB whereas the dvd+r are only 4,700,000 KB.

However, surely this shouldnt matter as the actual data written is around 2 GB????????

    I am really confused.

dvdx copy wont help if it cant read...http://www.dvdxcopy.com/ it's $99. might consider www.dvd2one.com its only $44 us dollars...do the rip yourself. do you have a cd rom or a dvd rom...to read dvd's you need a dvd rom drive...a cd rom wont cut it.

im reading the dvd with my dvd writer(but only managing to do it with nero). but still cant burn with nero.
still same prob, "not enough space on medium".
Really cant understand it as i can write dvd data cd's and dvd-video, but not when just doing a straight 1:1 copy!!!!!!
I was going to try burning the image to HD first with nero, do you think this will work?????

let me get this straight...you're using your dvd writer as a reader and can't understand why you can't do a dvd copy? think about it!!!!!!!

Helooo! (knocking on glass) If you want to make a 1:1 copy of a disc, it is so goddamn easy to do with decrypter. ISO mode rip, ISO mode write. Done. Why go through all of the trouble?

Ive tried DVd dycrpter and I get a read error. Ive tried updating the PX engine and it still happens. Ive tried about 4-5 different apps and they wont read the disc, only nero will.

p.s. framerman, please read the full thread before being a sarcastic t**t!!!!!

you are not going mental, I'm having the exact same problem with my Philips DVDRW228. I can't use DVD Decrypter as it can't read the whole disc.
I have burnt the image to my hard drive, it weighs in at 4.4GB - can't burn it to disc though. Then I looked in Nero at the medium info (its a Philips DVD+RW)- it says my purportedly 4.7GB disc only has 4.483GB available capacity. What a load of tosh, why doesn't this say 4.7GB???
This is the first time I've tried copying a DVD and to be frank it doesn't seem worth the trouble.

    A DVD-R only holds 4.37GB
which is why 4.4Gb won't fit on it. I don't know why Nero reports 4.48, it should report 4.37.
