    Hello guys,

I have been searching for answers to this all evening. I am using a drive I have been using for a couple of years and want to burn a 4 minute flac file to an audio cd, but nero tells me I must insert a blank disk.

The disks are the same good Q ones I have always used, so its really baffling.

I wonder if the drive is dying or if anyone has had this issue and has had success. I have updated the firmware, made sure ALL users have burn permission, (I am admin anyway) I dont have any InCD or that kind of direct to CD stuff.

    Any clues?
    Much appreciated,
    Mark.

there is a better version of Nero 7, yours might be buggy.... 7.10.1.0........

Save your serial # then uninstall Nero!
Use the cleaning tool: Nero7 Clean tool http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero7-tools-utilities.html
do a registry clean up using this free cleaner: CCleaner:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/download
then do a defrag and reboot!

    now reinstall Nero 7.10.1.0: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?2893

ASPI layer is corrupted, try this, version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

    http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

aslo.... do you have any virtual drives? if so shut them down. Nero doesn't like it and they cause errors while burning!

    Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A> Version: 1.WB
    this firmware is found here:
Liggy's and Dee's modified NEC and Optiarc firmwares
this is modified firmware and might not work for your drive in your computer and should be used at owners risk. I don't know whether your firmware update ruined your drive or not, but now you are having trouble with disks that you used to use flawlessly! the newest firmware from NEC is:
    1.04
this firmware is the known firmware from NEC and can also be found here: http://support.necam.com/Optical/downloads/FlashFirmware/
Understand that firmware updates are used to make your old drive compatible with newer media and also to correct errors and improve performance of the drive. Now after you did a firmware update to a MODIFIED firmware your drive does not recognize a disk that you usually burn to! Try updating your firmware to version 1.04 found above and see if that helps..... if not your burner might be toast! But do all the changes stated above because you are:

    1. using a version of Nero that may be buggy.
    2. your ASPI layer maybe corrupt and that will inhibit any burning!
    3. check that you don't have any virtual drives on and turn on your DMA!
    4. update your firmware to THE KNOWN FIRMWARE FROM NEC: 1.04!

good luck. let me know how everything works out. Welcome to Afterdawn.

@livegod....... I am just giving back what I got out of AfterDawn. You are not the only one that asks these SAME questions, over and over again. I have bookmarks and sticky pastes responses, so what you think took a long time to do only took a few mins.! It's all good. Pay it foward..... and welcome to Afterdawn.
