Hi guys, need some help, hope I'm not duplicating a previous thread, couldn't find anything else on this. Thanks in advance for your help.

I rebuilt my computer recently, everything installed correctly and meticulously, etc. Unfortunately, forgot to keep copy of WinDVD which I was using for playing DVD's, so I bought Nero Ultra 7, had some problems with a bug in initial version 7 release connected to Nero Burning ROM not starting properly, updated to latest Nero 7 release downloaded from Nero website yesterday and fixed that.

Now have a problem with Nero Showtime 3.0.0.1. The sound is awful when playing in 6 channel sound mode, it sounds constrained and tinny, without the magnificent effect usually gained through my 7.1 creative home theatre and soundblaster audigy zs set up. I checked my sound settings and driver, everything working and set up fine, problem just with Nero Showtime, tried reinstalling Showtime, no difference.

The only clue I have but not sure if relevant is a file which appeared in my root directory called FilterLog.log and contains the text 'cFilterLog::cFilterLog()cFilterLog::GetValuesFromRegistry: NeAVSync.ax failed'. The file it refers to NeAVSync.ax is part of Nero and was installed at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeAVSync.ax

    Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Terry

I had that same log entry. Don't know what it means, but I will tell you what I just did and you make a decision about what you need to do.

I had Nero 7 v7.2.0.3b installed on a computer, which has the Showtime 3 version. I tried playing a new DVD I got today and the thing kept hesitating or quitting entirely.

I used the clean tool to uninstall the latest version and reinstalled version 7.0.8.2 (ShowTime 2), which you can get from the address below and the movie played fine.

I personally am going to stick with version 7.0.1.4 since NeroVision 4 seems to work the best. If you do have problems with ShowTime, you might try going into the configuration setup and changing from the Nero DVD Navigator to the Microsoft one. You might even try that with your present version to see if it helps.

There should be a new update coming out soon, which may fix some of these problems.

OK thanks, I'll try installing 7.0.8.2 and let you know how I get on. It's the strangest thing, because if I set the audio settings to 2 speakers, it sounds great in dolby surround sound from just my front speakers, but sounds unbearable on the 4 or 6 speaker settings, in fact I'm getting error messages now too with some different DVDs in 4/6 speaker mode.

I'm quite unimpreswed with the number of bugs I've experienced and seen reported in Nero 7, poor testing and too much hassle, wish I'd shopped elsewhere.

Is there a good free DVD player available anywhere if this doesn't work, maybe I could just keep Nero for the burning ROM software?

    Thanks.

Thanks Gwendolin, I didn't realise that I had to revert to an earlier release of all my Nero7 components just to revert to the Nero Showtime version contained in 7.0.8.2. Having read the release notes on Nero's website, this could just as likely cause problems with the other components. Anyway, decided now that I can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to sort this out, I want software released with fewer bugs that works out the box, what happened to Nero, used to be much better! Have decided to just uninstall the Nero Showtime3 component and use something better. Thanks everyone for all your help, sorry for the change of approach, Terry.
