Hi. I'm trying to burn an ISO image using Nero SmartStart - how do I lower the burn speed?

The options say "Minimum," "Automatic," etc. but it won't actually tell me what speeds those represent!

You have to insert the blank media in your burner first, and then it will allow you to choose the speed.

Edit: Okay, so I figured out how to get it to show write speed. However, the lowest setting it shows is 4x, and I was told to burn this media at a speed of 2x. Is there any way to slow it down, and if not, are there any other burning programs that have the option for 2x burning?

Is that ISO a movie? If it is a movie or an application, you need to burn a DVD Image(video) not a Data DVD. If it is a movie, right click on the ISO and choose "Open With Nero Burning Rom".

What media are you using? What is the maximum burning speed that the disc is rated for?(4X,8X,16X...)

    Another great application is ImgBurn.

It's actually the PS2 game Ico - my original is really scratchy, so I'm wary of using it, and I thought it'd be better to burn a backup and play that.
I was told that PS2 games generally do not run if they are burned at any speed above 2x.

I know nothing about games back up, but I do seem to know that too, slow burning speeds. However, I think you still need to burn an image disc and not a data disc.

Give ImgBurn a try, it lets me select a burn speed of 1X,2X,...I am using 16X discs.

Well, I downloaded ImgBurn. It lets me change the write speed to 2x, but when I put the DVD in, it says the only speeds supported are 4x and up. I don't know if that means my burner only supports 4x and up, or the DVD, or what.

So, I burned the game with the "2x" option selected, but when burning the actual write speed was around 4x.

Despite this, I have burned two backup games so far, and they have both worked perfectly.

Success! Thanks for all your help. =)

I don't know, maybe is the burner that doesn't go lower than 4X.
Whatever it is, glad you got it working!
    Cheers!
