When I open Nero startsmart, it freezes my computer, so absolutely nothing responds. Esc, ctrl/alt/del, alt/F4 none respond. The only fix is to switch off the computer & restart. Nero is version 6 (tried 7, but same problem). Also tried running in safe mode, but problem persists. I can use Nero if I enter via 'all programs' but some features are not accessable via this route. I have tried uninstalling/re-installing, but to no avail. It did start working one evening after re-installing, but then promptly failed again. Any ideas anyone??? Nero help centre did not ever reply.
It's possible that something went wrong with the install, the file your installing maybe corrupt, etc... I disconnect from the net and make sure my AV software is disabled before installing anything. The proper way to uninstall nero completely from your system is to use the general cleantool, if you use windows add/remove programs, it could leave registry entries behind that could interfere with new installations of nero. Get the nero7 general cleantool here and use it to remove/uninstall nero http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html After you've used the general cleantool and rebooted, run the driver cleantool to remove any registry entries still left behind, then run the RegistryChecker file to confirm all is gone. I just tried uninstalling with the Nero 6 clean tool, and also used regcleaner to clean up the registry. Re installed Nero 6, but problem persists. I will try your suggestions again, but dont like 7 as I can only use trial version, and did not really like the way it tries to allways run in the background, and it also seems to want to run every application for me! (well, link all available media) I prefer 6 as it only works when I want it to, not when I dont! PS, It used to run just fine, only recently started playing up, I have removed all programs that might have clashed with it, but to no avail.
