installed nero 9 as replacement for roxio which completely crapped on my machine. now all my file associations have been "swiped" by nero. even my jpgs are labeled as nerophotosnapviewer.files9.jpg, instead of just plain jpg i reassociation the jpgs with my photoshop, but the name change (file type) seems to be stuck. can this be fixed?
right clicked on a jpg file, went to open with- programs, chose photoshop cs4 (like i did before this happened), ticked the box that said always open these files with this program (or something like that). files open with photoshop cs4 fine. they say- filename.nerosnapscanviewer.files9.jpg they used to say filename.jpg how do i get rid of the snapscanviewer nonsense in the middle? and thanks
This was an interesting problem. I actually installed Nero 9 trial to replicate your problem. The answer was actually in Windows XP help. This is the ONLY way that I found that allows you to change the file type association that shows up in Windows explorer in the "type" column. Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options Click on the "File Type" tab. Under "registered file types", select the file type that you want to disassociate with Nero. There is no multiple select function so you will have to do them one at a time. For example, I had already change the filetype association, as you had, but the file type name still stayed as nero9. In the box details for JPG extension, click on "restore". This will change ALL associations and file types for files with the extension .jpg back to a default of "none". The file type will revert to JPG file. You will then be able to go back and reassociate the file extension with your preferred application. In order to change the file type name back to what I wanted I found it necessary to go back into the preferred application (In my case Paint Shop Pro) and tell it to associate .jpg files with it. The file type then changed back to "Paint Shop pro. I hope that this helps.
