    Hi Mataichi
I'd be frustrated too - almost 4hrs and freezing.
What's the file format you are doing - like avi, mov etc.

Which version of Nero you are using?

Keep us much memory free as possible when using Vision. Might want to shut down iTunes, AOL, MSN, Yahoo etc when using Vision.
You could has try saving it to your hard drive than using burning rom or express to burn.

I suggest you stick to Nero 6, for now im still using it cause I heard Nero 7 has many bugs.
Nero 6.6.0.18 is good for you thats what im using.

You might check and see if there is a history log you could post, maybe something would show up. It should be in the Core directory and be a NeroHistory.xxx file. Make sure you take you serial number out in all the places and try to edit the file to just show the last couple of entries with problems. You will see where each entry starts and stops.

Have you ever had any other versions of the software installed?

You might try changing media, but maybe the log will give us some extra info.

Well Vision takes alot more of your pc than burning does.
Keeping alot going on will also slow things down.

Give task manager a peek while all this is running to see how much memory is in use.

See if there is a log as saltgrass suggested.

I just upgraded to Nero 7 and I am having the same issue but its not at the same spot everytime. It freezes, but the elapsed time keeps ticking. This is an obvious problem alot of people are having and I never had the problem with Nero 6. There is no log because when it freezes....the whole program freezes, but there is no report of an error happening. If you do a google search for "Nero Transcoding freezes" you will see that this is probably the most common problem people on other posts are reporting. I thought I figured it out by cutting the parts where it freezes out of the videos...but I guess I got lucky the one time it worked. I have heard all this stuff about firmware and burner speed and better quality dvds and this and that. I tried burning to disc and image recorder both.....with quality dvds....at the slowest and highest speeds...and my computer is a musicxpc professional(3.2ghz P4) and I am using an external hard drive as well with 160gb space on it. I am certain it is Nero 7 that is the problem. I never had this problem until I upgraded. What a waste of money.

At first I thought it was my files that had a problem..but I did notice it happens at the same exact spot. I moved files around and deleted whatever file it froze on(I can see on the little tv screen while its transcoding which video file it stops at) and I have deleted those and when I delete those files....the file in front of it obviously moves back into the same place where the deleted file was.....it still freezes at the same time interval.

I have gone to Neros Technical support and if I hear a solution from them...I will post it...

My next question is related to this... Does anyone know if its possible to save different titles one by one as image files(burn to image recorder) and then combine them all into one dvd. I figured that way I would only have to wait 10 minutes or so for each title and I won't take such a risk waiting hours for that one freeze to screw up all that time. Then I could combine all the titles onto one dvd....and since image files only take minutes to burn....it might be faster...Anyone know if this is possible?

You could try saving to a hard drive folder than using the 'merge title' option in Recode - Compile a DVD.
    May work for you.

That sounds like a good idea, but after I add the titles the "merge titles" button is in black and white and will not let me click on it when I highlight the titles I want to merge. Also...if I merge them together...wouldn't that mean that they would not be individual titles anymore and the viewer would have to watch hours of titles he didnt want to see just to get to a title that is at the end of the list? This is confusing now and once again Nero 7 has managed to piss me off

Yes it would merge the title together - pretty sure Compile a DVD doesn't have the chapter or other options Vision has.
To merge press in the shift key then highlight the titles. The option will no longer be 'greyed' out.
There's always fast forward :) but your right if trying to make a professional DVD this may not be a good thing.

mine was locking up during transcoding UNLESS i had it burn to the image drive, then went to nero burning ROM and burned it onto the DVD - dont ask me why but that worked

Mine worked with Nero Image for one project but failed every time after that. I finally got everything on dvd after wasting dozens of dvds and time. I had to write each title in my project to disc (not the same as creating an image file) and then after I had all the titles written individually, I combined them into a new project and burned that to an image file. From there I burned onto dvd and it finally worked. I am still wanting to do it the normal way so I will still let mataichi know what technical support says if they ever get back to me.

I just downloaded the newest updates for nero 7 (which took several attempts) and had no problems burning the same project that locked up before.

I've downloaded the updates twice now and nothing. I just got word back from Nero Tech Support and I dont think they know what they are talking about....This is what they said...and what I said back.....

thank you for your email and your interest in our software.

The 'Focus or tracking error' message is a hardware error. It can be caused by
    the following.

    1) Poor Media - Try more than one brand of CDR media to rule this out as the
    cause.
    2) Poor Power - The power to your recorder could be fluctuating. If you have an
Internal Recorder, try a different power connector to the Recorder, and make
sure it's not being shared by any other devices. If you have an External
Recorder, remove it from the external chassis, if you can, and connect as an
internal recorder on your system. If this resolves your issue, then you need to
replace or repair the power source in your external chassis.
    3) Optical head is dirty, needs alignment, or recorders circuit board has an
open coil - please contact your Recorder Manufacturer to service your unit

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best regards

    Dear Tech Support,
I don't believe these are the problems because I have tried 3 different media discs (including the expensive lightscribe discs) and I have both an internal recorder and an external recorder and I have tried both of which. And I am not just having a problem recording to disc...I am having a problem creating image files as well or writing to my hard drive. I don't believe the optical head is dirty because I just purchased this computer (MusicXPC Professional 3.2GHZ) 3 months ago and have barely used the disc drive. Do you have any other suggestions please?

@chrispar1, While your "jumping" on members for doing things against forum rules I would like to point out to you that you have also broken forum rules by "Hijacking" this thread from Mataichi, so lets not be to quick to judge others and allow those who are empowered to take the necessary action.

    hey cincyrob
Let's start a new thread on this ? - this thread is about Vision freezing. Bit different from Recode.

I have not "hijacked" anything. Mitaichi and myself have the same problem so I expressed that to him. I figured out some things and stated those to him and people started responding to me and asking me questions. My questions are still related to Mitaichi's problem and he/she does not exactly appear to have anything to say regarding the problem so Mitaichi must've fixed his/her problem. Unfortunately I still have the same problem which is why I am discussing it with people on this thread. Please get off my back and leave me alone Gwendolin.
