I have been using Nero 7 for sometime now and have not had many problems. I downloaded and installed the new update and it locked up and did not finish the intallation. I tried to uninstall everything including the original and I keep getting a Shellmanager database is corrupt or missing error. Now I can't uninstall, reinstall or anything to get Nero 7 back. I just want to get back to where I was before I did this update. I have already tried the windows restore to earlier time option and still get this error. Anyone know what is going on?
The proper way to uninstall nero completely from your system is to use the general cleantool, if you use windows add/remove programs, it could leave registry entries behind that could interfere with new installations of nero. Get the nero7 general cleantool here and use it to remove/uninstall nero http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html Once the uninstall is complete, install the new version of nero7 (7.0.8.2), re-enter your serial# and you should be ok. Nero7 version 7.0.8.2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.8.2_eng_no_yt.exe
even when i have done nero general clean tool, it still shows my serial number when I do a re-install. I've tried everything I can think of to remove all traces of nero 7 (add/remove programs, manual delete of all folders named nero or ahead, manal delete of all nero/ahead registry keys, even a search for nero/ahead and a deletion of all results). It still has my serial number already entered in as i do a re-install. I want to do a COMPLETE re-install, but if it remembers my serial then it probably isn't all gone, right? Frustrating....
@tetrakis After you've used the general cleantool and rebooted, run the driver cleantool to remove any registry entries still left behind, then run the RegistryChecker file to confirm all is gone. Get it here: Clean pack (registry checker and driver cleantool) http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html
tried that already, didn't help. I think there is something specific to my comp since I haven't heard of this happening to anybody besides me. I think reformat is only option...screws me though, there are multiple users of my comp and a reformat is a big undertaking (requires everyone to back-up data, etc...). Yes, my serial is legit, by the way.
Youre not the only one it happened to me also and I used the cleaning tools to and I kept getting a error that read "can't connect to Shell Manager" and I had to reboot my system but since then it's been reinstalled and works fine It's even been updated since then.
