Hi everyone. First time post here.

I have what will probably amount to be a dumb question but here goes...

When I split a piece of video footage in Nero Vision 4, the preview window will no longer play all the way through the video. So, if I insert a transition in the split, I can't see it play out because I have to manually move the timeline cursor beyond the split to see the rest of the footage.

Anyone know how to bypass this hangup? Is there a shortcut key or a setting that I need to adjust?

    thanks

I haven't found any way to play back a range of clips in the "Edit Movie" screen. FWIW, if you play the transition by itself, it will show the effect from start to finish. If you want to see from before the transition starts or continue after its done, the only way I know is to go to the "Create Chapters" screen and play that portion there; not very convenient.

    Rick,

Thank you for replying. You've confirmed my worst suspicions. Dernit! Nero is fundamentally a good program but it is as if they are out to punish everyone who uses it. Their techsupport is virtually non-existant unless you want to pay for it (hey! I paid for the program, I have a valid serial number...). And if (and when) you get a response to an email request, it is often as not almost as if they are responding to some other email. And no followup if you try to clarify things with them.

And their help files are so basic as to be counterproductive. And not easy to find or use.

I's consider myself "beyond the beginning" as far as understanding and using computers. A problem like the one we are talking about is just so counter-intuitive....it sux, big time! And it is the only video editing program that I've seen that operates this way. Even WindowsMovieMaker is smarter in that regard.

This will be my last installation of Nero.

    Rick,

Since you were so kind as to respond, I thought you might like to know...I figured out how to do it!

Simply click on the little "film strip cutouts" along the bottom or top of the timeline. When they turn royal blue, top and bottom, the playback will run from start to end and not stop at the beginning of the next section or the end of a transition. As long as the focus is in the playback window or anywhere but on the timeline, playback will not run through the split.

Figuring this out was a total accident...nowhere is this mentioned or hinted at in the helpfiles/tutorials.

Hope this helps...you, me, and anyone else who might have had trouble this way.
