Hi, Just trying out Nero Vision 4 (4.7.0.7 demo version) to edit some DVDs recorded on my STB DVD Recorder, and also on my DVD Camcorder. Everything goes fine, until I play the created DVD, the video is continuously stuttering/juddering/jumping (however you like do describe it!) but the audio is fine. I tried both 1 pass & two pass encoding, but made no difference. No errors appear during the who process. I've uploaded the nerovision logfine, and the infotool logfile to: http://www.totalhumour.com/nero/nero.htm (For some reason my server didn't like the file called infotool.txt so I renamed it to nero_it.txt) I'm using a completely clean, fresh (I formatted it this morning) install of Windows XP Pro SP2, completely up to date with updates. AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ 2400 MHz 1GB RAM RADEON 9600 SERIES (latest drivers) Any ideas? Cheers Mike
Hello again, Well I've narrowed the problem down. If I switch on the Smart Encoding, the picture only stutters/jumps a couple of seconds either side of where I've cut a scene out of the video. So it appears to be a problem with Nero re-encoding the video as it slows down during the build process where the cut is. Mike
Have you checked to see what setting Nero is using to burn the videos. It normally changes the quality depending on how large the file is, but you might play with those settings. Change the bit rate, or even try changing the sound. You say everything is fine until after burning, so when you play it in Nero, it doesn't skip? NV4 takes a lot of processing power so you might make sure you aren't doing anything else. NV4 has been having certain problems with .avi files for a while, so it may be related to that, but normally the problem is out of sync audio.
Hi Saltgrass, I've not tried changing the video settings etc, but will give it a try. Yes, when previewing in NV4 it looks fine, but the resulting video skips. It doesn't even need to be burned to a DVD, playing the generated .VOB files directly from my hard disk has the same problem. I've tried everything Nero support has said (different media, slower burning speed which all makes no difference) but as I say above, it's still wrong if I play the .VOB files directly from my hard disk without ever burning it to DVD. Cheers Mike
Hello, I've had the same problem too-- smart encoding merely passes the existing video and there is no re-encoding by nero, so there;s no problem. But the video jitters especially when there is a join and a chapter reference. so this is clearly a prob with the nero encoder. Previously i was using vision 3, where the encoding result was very satisfying, but there there was a problem of previewing a project whenever i added any audio to either of the streams. In short vision 4 allows smooth preview, but seems to be doing a crapy job whenever it has to re-encode video. I've tried both 2-pass and 1-pass, very little difference (in fact jittering is less on 1-pass). Now i've re-encoded it using interlaced (top field first). The final DVDs plays smooth on PC, but jittery on TV, so was guessing that nero's doing something crappy with progressive and interlaced framing Further experiments, I'm doing on DVD+RW, cause i've already wasted 3 disks, will let u know if there is any improvement on quality
Hi ruffpatch, Sounds exactly like the problems I'm having. I'm currently trying different settings to see what difference any of them make (if any!) If I use 2-pass encoding the whole video jitters, but if I use 1-pass it's only where I've cut scenes out. I'm also currently having email support from Nero about this, and sending them exapmple files. They do seem very helpful with this, so will post back when I have more news. Cheers Mike
Do you by chance be have an AMD machine? Cause my machine is really powerful, but can come up with the strangest of errors (like the inability to write on DVD-r's and DVD-RW, but no prob with DVD+R/RW !!!). BTW, if the part about DVD playback, smooth on PC and jittery on TV, exists for u too, bring that to the NERO people's notice, it may be helpful to them. Thanks for the reply and update
Yes, I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ with 1GB ram. I don't have any problems burning different media like DVD-R or -RW, every burn completes fine. I've told nero that the playback is fine while in NV4, but when I playback the geberated .VOB file either on my PC or on TV thats when it jutters. I'm making a small example and going to upload it so they can try it themselves.
ruffpatch, I've been having a "play" with NV4 this afternoon, and settinig the Sample Format to Interlaces (top field first) has fixed the problem for me, and now the end result looks perfect. I also changed the Audio Format from Automatic to Dolby-Digital 2.0 just in case, not that there was any problem with the audio. I've done 4 tests and they all look good now, and tried the DVD on 3 different stand alone DVD players, all played fine.
Hey cool, so my initial assumption abt proggressive vs interlaced stuff was rite, i'll try the same as soon as i pick up a +RW disk. Thannx for the input. What did NERO people have to say abt this?
Forgot to mention that when i encoded using interlaced top-field first, i didn't write that to a DVD yet, only on to the HDD. So, don't know the result of that
Well, it did solve the problem for me too. Video is playing smoothly on TV, just like how NERO was formerly working
Glad it's now working for you too. I was hoping I'd be able to get NV4 to work as it's the best of the DVD Authoring software I've tried. I have passed my results onto Nero, but not heard back yet, so will let you know if they have anything to say about it. Cheers Mike
