I'm a newbie, but I just found this site, and it really has great information.

    Here's my question...

I used Windows Moviemaker to make a video slide show with music. It's saved as a wmv file, only 10 MB in size.

I then imported it into Nero Vision 4 to make a DVD video. When complete, it says that the burn was successful. When I go to play it on my DVD player, however, it gets choppy in some parts and freezes. This happens on my Liteon or my Panasonic DVD player.

Now, if I use Nero Vision 4 to burn it onto a CD, it plays fine. Even though it's a small video, I like using DVD because the quality seems better than on the CD.

BTW, I burn movies without a problem using Nero Burning ROM.

Any ideas why it works on a CD, but not a DVD?

    Hello gedano.

    There are three common causes.

    Using poor quality media.
    Burning too fast.
    Out of date burner firmware.

Good quality media is considered by many to be that made by Taiyo Yuden, Made in Japan labeled Sony and Fuji, and Verbatim

Many brands use media made by a variety of manufactures, both good and bad. You can download DVD Identifier from the link below. It will ID the actual manufacturer of your media.

    http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com

As for burning speed a good rule of thumb is to limit the burn speed to 1/2 or less of the rated speed of the media.

I don't know the brand and model of your burner so I cannot direct you more specifically to firmware updates. DVD Identifier will also provide the model of your burner as well as its firmware version. usually a 3 or 4 letter/number combination after the burner name and model.

Firmware can be found at the web sites of the manufacturer or from here:

Problem solved by going back to stable version 7.0.8.2.

Thanks laddyboy. I never realized how critical the media was. Dvdidentifier is awesome.
