Okay, please forgive me, I am very new to a bunch of the DVD stuff....

I am trying to author my first dvd. I recorded TV on a standalone recorder and burned it to disc. I have ripped that DVD to my harddrive (with DVD Decrypter) and now I have 22 .vob files on my machine. I authored a DVD using Nero Vision and all was well or so I thought. Basically, when I watched the DVD (outside of the PC so that I know its the disc and not the saved files) in each chapter there was a little glitch. The audio would drop out, but the video was fine. There was a glitch every 25 seconds or so. And it was happening in each chapter/movie.

When I watch a VOB file from the harddrive in Nero Showtime, the VOB is fine. There is no glitch.

So, I think the files are okay. I started to do a little investigating and pulled the .vob into Nero Vision and selected make a movie. In this view, I could pull the video in. Once I did, at the bottom there is a thumbnail view, and you can preview the video at the top. The thumbnail view divides the .vob into segments. I remembered where the audio was dropping off on the video, and noticed that the audio was dropping off at point where the segements were divided in the Video Track view. So I think that when it is burning, it is having an issue putting the segments together.

Is there a setting that I am missing that will keep the segments together?

Right now, I got the hang of authoring in Nero Vision, so I would like to fix this.

This is all on Nero 7.

    Any ideas?

excellent forum, by the way, i have learned lots of stuff here over the last week. I have been "backing up" my movies all weekend. :)

You're new, there's still time to escape! RUN away from making your own DVDs while you can! Ok, just kidding. It really is fun, but it can be confusing and frustrating at times.
First off, stop using Nero Vision. That's my opinion, but it's just mediocre software. For doing what you are describing, TMPGEnc DVD Author is an excellent tool for a beginner. You take your disc from the recorder, and rip it (it's faster this way) to the PC HD. Then fire up TMPGEnc DVD Author and open all your tracks right there, edit them, create a customized menu (or let it do one automatically) and then author, burn, watch in any player you own.
Very easy to use and you will not experience annoying dropouts, or annoying sound sync problems or other frustrating nonsense, as long as the original material is good. There are plenty of apps out there that I use, but when quick and easy is what I need I still use this one over and over.
