i recently updated my Nero package to 7.5 thinking that this problem might have just been an issue with Nero 7.0 but it still continues to happen.. simply trying to burn a 1 hour and 24 min Avi movie file to dvd (Nero actually converts this to 4.37 GB!) and at the same frame each time it slows down completely and practically freezes.. the 'time elapsed' counter still moves but 'time remaining' manages to freeze up and the frame (same one each time) just stays frozen in the preview window.

i tried burning the same file with 'Vso ConvertXToDVD' and it appears to have surpassed where Nero was freezing (although ConvertX does not show a preview) so i figure it must be a problem with Nero, which i would rather use since i've already customized a menu with background music.. Vso has pretty horrible menu editing :/

anyone know what this issue might be? should i set the priority from 'Normal' to something different?

first off...... there must be a problem with the AVI for it to cause a freezing in the same area with both programs... but you said it works better with ConvertXToDVD but no preview.... does the outcome play on the computer? did you burn it to disk with ConvertXToDVD? And I don't know what you're talking about when it comes to menu editing with ConvertXToDVD? I can put in a background pixs... music and everything that Nero can do, and I like the speed of ConvertXToDVD as compared to Nero! I use it all the time when converting AVI files and have no problem with making menus or chapter sets with music! So it must be you who can't work the program correctly. just my 2 cents.

there is actually nothing wrong with the AVI.. only Nero 7.5.

ConvertXtoDVD does not have an option for adding music that i can find (ive only been able to add a background picture + edit text).. if you can show me that option i'd be greatly appreciative.

when i was burning it to DVD with ConvertX, it actually gave a write error at like 94%! i was so angry.. said something about a bus reset. i had recently switched to PIO mode from DMA mode since i had to upgrade my writer's firmware but i doubt that had anything to do with it since 94% was higher than before i upgraded the firmware.
so now im looking for a reliable burning program.

Are you sure your AVI files is not corrupted? Try to run it through or have K-Lite Codec or GSpot fix it in prior to import into Nero Vision.

Out of curiosity, what kind of media you're using?

why would you do that????? Everyone wants to keep DMA enabled and you shut it off.... never heard of that!

I agree about the DMA, it does make a huge difference!

And when you say there is nothing wrong with the .AVI file, that might be true for everyone except Nero. It has shown some problems with .avi files, and some specific types more than others. If it is only having problems with one specific area, there might have been something about the encoding that is giving Nero fits. You might try changing the quality of the transcoding to see if it makes any difference. Is there anything going on in the video in those scenes that might take extra transcoding resources?

A file of that length would just about fill up a DVD, so the length appears to be close. Is that what the Disk space used bar shows during compilation?
