I know that these three programs are radically different from each other in some respects, but what I dont understand is, what can Nero do that the other two can't?
Is there a website that can help me understand the three programs, or am i stuck reading the file's help menu that it comes with?

Nero Recode is a knock off version of DVD Shrink that comes with the full version of Nero 6 and newer versions. In my opinion Shrink and Decrypter are far more superior than Recode. Recode has no decryption capability, yet decrypter and shrink does. Shirnk has less decryption capabilities than Decrypter. Although shrink has compression capabilities but decryptor doesn't. Nero Recode is made by the same person who did DVD Shrink so everything must be by the book because its commercialized. So my suggestion would be to stick with Decrypter an DVD Shrink and save yourself a few bucks.

Nero Recode is faster and yields better results!

DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode then back to DVD Decrypter for burning is a far better combination than DVD Shrink and Nero for burning.

I agree with temj. Nero Recode 2 is by far a better encoder and it's much faster than DVD Shrink. Even though both of them applications (programs) are from the same creator/developer, DVD Shrink is no longer updated (I'm not dissing DVD Shrink because I still have Shrink encode very few movies once in a while.) Nero Recode 2, on the other hand, is still active, has more updates and more advanced. I have InterVideo DVD Copy 3 and 4, but the fact that I never used is you can't control the burn speeds, plus it can't book type DVD+R DL/DVD+R/DVD+RW to DVD-ROM -- whereas, Nero Burning Rom can easily change the book type automatically. Below is my method of ripping and burning.

DVD Decrypter - to rip and decrypt into hard drive
Nero Recode 2 - to encode (much faster than DVD Shrink)
Nero Burning Rom - to burn and automatically booked type into DVD-ROM (90% of all my backups, 10% is DVD Decrypter)

I see where you guys are coming from I have Recode as well. I don't know if it's my system or something but recode is not noticeablly faster than Shrink and the quality difference is only noticed by a trained eye. The interface for Shrink is even more newbie friendly. If you noitce there are way more post asking for help with recode than shrink. For the nail in the coffin I paid 57 bucks for the full editon of nero 6 and I use Shirnk and DVD43/Decryptor 90% of the time and they all were free. So, If you have 60 bucks lying around by all means Recode, but if I had it to do all over again I'd spend that money on some DVD Rs. Just my opinion.

    Question@ Alkohol / Anyone:

How did you get the pic in your signiture?

I have a Afterdawn Features guide that shows how to put images in posts and in your signature. You do need to have an image on line that you can link to.

    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Afterdawn Guide.html

Nero has lots of other features that are good to have if you do things like edit home video or make slideshows. I use Burning ROM to do most of my burning with. Decrypter forces you to burn in ISO mode only which is OK most of the time. I did run into a movie that had some problems and the only way I could get it to burn was by using Nero.

If the only thing you can use is Recode2 then Nero is not worth it. I do use Recode2 quite a bit with AnyDVD in the background though.

i'd reccomend getting all 3 because they are similar but they all do different things also. some make the same things easier to do than others and they are all free except for nero, but u can just go download it from a p2p client

Guys I owe you an appology about nero recode I recant that statement about recode not being much faster than shrink, for the record it wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy faster. I have seen the light. It gets up to 100 frames per second on some movies when shrink gets at the max on my PC 65-50 fps.

I tried to use a P2P such as azereus but no luck finding a complete edition of Nero 6 or any Nero for that matter. Am I doing something wrong or am I looking in the wrong spots, after all I do go to www.isohunt.com and I usually get a hit...

@thor9978 - what you need to do is try out the trial versions of whichever aspects of Nero that you want, then purchase the relevant programs if you're happy with the trials
