I bought my DVD writer about 6 months back and have burnt abt a 100 dvds till date but last week all of a sudden all the dvds i burn started giving me write errors. they were getting stuck at some point or other or they were burning properly but showing read errors during the verifying process. i have a TSST corp DVDw SH-W162C writer and i recently updated my firmware to the latest version and i think that is where the prob started but ever since then i have tried using every firmware before the current one but with same results. i have also tried reformatting my hard drive but it did not help i also did the ide drive uninstall thing to turn the pio to dma mode. PLease help cuz i have some data i have been downloading for the past 9 months and I DONT want to lose it.

    Thanks

you should never keep flashing your drive, changing from newer firmware versions to older firmware version and visa versa..... you may have hurt your drive! Your current firmware is too old .... I would do a last firmware upgrade to the latest firmware: TS11, and do not flash firmware again!

Firmware for your burner as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. To find you firmware go to your burner homepage and find the firmware for you make and model.

this should not be all zeros! you drive/Nero is not recognizing your media properly

don't know and never seen this media id before! this could be the problem here!

this shows there is something definately wrong with your drive! maybe that's why it can't read or recognize your media... suspect that with all the firmware flashing:
this may have damaged your drive!

you are using crappy media! Moser Baer is made in India and it's crap! Stick with the disks [bold]Made In Japan[/bold]. You'll have less errors if you stick with the MIJ rule. Verbatim is the only exception because they are top notch media and made in Taiwan/Singapore. Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, Fuji and other brands are MIJ.... read the lable on the box or the spindle and make sure it is MIJ and you can't go wrong!

You have 256MB of Ram which is the very minimum ...... do not multi task, go on the internet, shut down all unnessissary back ground programs, even shut your anti virus down while you burn! Or installing more RAM would be nice! And will help with the errors you are getting!

you still didn't update your firmware for the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162C to TS11. sooooooo this is my advise to you.....

    1. update your firmware
    2. use better media
    3. install more RAM or do not mutitask, etc.
    4. I would also have your drive checked out because of the KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR you are getting!

do this or don't and keep getting errors!

closed as problem has now spread here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/411265

as advised by hursty in that new one, you should follow the advice kindly given, it could be the difference between you burning successfully again and your warranty running out
