I've just upgraded to a new computer and reinstalled Nero and everything else. I've changed the DMA setting, upgraded the drivers, and all the other things I found on this site. Still can't burn.

Any help would be much appriciated.

Here is the inof I get from Nero:

    hi there

80% is a lot of memory in use. i suggest you cut down on multitasking while burning

are you sure the disc is blank? if you are what kind of discs are you using? your drive doesnt seem to be recognizing them.

you didnt have anything open? if u didtn i suggest you check for adware/viruses as 80% is a lot for one burn process i believe tho i could be wrong.

also, what discs are you using i had a problem where my drive wouldnt burn to my 16x TDKs but worked fine with 8x Sonys. it is a diff drive tho so might not be a problem.

anyway the general suggestions are verbatim discs or sony and maxell that are made in Japan for high quality discs.

    Hi SBullet

As Xevlys pointed out 80% is high esp if your not multitasking. Check task manager and see what's running. Anything like aol, msn, iTunes things like that running?

2 things going on here. The hard drive (maxtor) still shows DMA as off. That could be playing into this from the log because speed of source data is too slow

Also the burner and hard drive are on the primary ide cable - with the burner set to the master and the hard drive to slave. This can sometimes cause problems.
The burner should be on a separate ide cable.
When you upgraded did they configure it this way?

The system came with a cd/dvd player and I swapped it out for my burner. Then I added another drive that I use just for storage of DVD temp files and such.

I'm note sure what I can change at this point as the primary drive that come with the system doesn't use a ribbon cable and my other drive and the DVD burn both use a ribbon.

Is the maxtor the storage drive? The Western Digital the primary drive?
What kind of connection does the primary drive use?

Yes the Maxtor is the storage drive and the WD is the primary. The primary is SATA.

The primary drive (WD SATA) Is on its own cable with an option for another.

The DVD burner and the storage drive are on one EIDE cable. I belive this is the only EIDE cable.

Ok - make sure you have the pins/setting on the drives reflect their connection on the ide cable (master to master etc). Then get the Maxtor back in DMA mode.
    Here's a guide if needed:

Finally got a few disc to burn.

Binkie, good call the problem was having that drive on the same cable. So I just put the temp files on the other drive and all is well.

    Thanks, really appriciate your help.
