Hi, I'm new to this forum so I hope that this is the correct forum to post in, basically I have a problem with my dvd writer and nero for some reason it won't burn any sort of DVD or CD - it gets past writing the lead in and starts writing the data but then fails - I had this problem with my previous DVD writer which is why I bought the DVDRW SHM-165P6S however after updating my bios (because i bought a new hardrive which my other bios wouldn't recognise) it has also stopped working. I tried to update the firmware for the drive but this just caused windows not to recognise the drive. Any help would be much appreciated. Here is the nero log file: Kev DJ Onslaught Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 17:35:32 Nero Version: 6.6.0.17 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 17c (Nero Express) Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S>Version: MS0N - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.17 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <KU1742A YAM181J >Version: 1.0 - HA 2 TA 0 - 6.6.0.17 Adapter driver: <dtscsi> HA 2 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6L250R0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6L160P0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : KU1742A YAM181J 1.0 dtscsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S F: CDRom3 KU1742A YAM181J G: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523760kB) Free physical memory: 130MB (133120kB) Memory in use : 74 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 6.6.2006 ISO compilation 20:57:58 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6356 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 20:57:58 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 20:57:58 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S running 20:57:58 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 20:57:58 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 20:57:59 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 358815 ( 79:44.15, 700MB) 20:57:59 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 20:57:59 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: PRODISC, Media Type ID: R04, Product revision number: 4 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 7 20:57:59 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 20:57:59 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 358816 (358816) = #358816/79:44.16 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 358816 blocks [LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S] -------------------------------------------------------------- 20:58:00 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Session Closed, disc fixated Tracks 1 to 1: 1: TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048/0x00, FilePos 0 0 734855168, ISRC "" DAO layout: =========== __Start_|____Track_|_Idx_|_CtrlAdr_|_RecDep__________ 0 | lead-in | 0 | 0x41 | 0x00 0 | 1 | 0 | 0x41 | 0x00 0 | 1 | 1 | 0x41 | 0x00 358816 | lead-out | 1 | 0x41 | 0x00 20:58:00 #12 Phase 24 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Caching of files started 20:58:00 #13 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 4120 Cache writing successful. 20:58:00 #14 Phase 25 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Caching of files completed 20:58:00 #15 Phase 36 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Burn process started at 16x (22,160 KB/s) 20:58:01 #16 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 2661 Verifying disc position of item 0 (relocatable, disc pos, no patch infos, orig at #0): write at #0 20:58:01 #17 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 8892 ---- DVD Structure: Physical Format Information (00h) ---- Layer: 0, Address: 0 (0 h), AGID: 0; Length: 2050 Book Type: DVD+R (10), Part Version: 1.0x (1) Disc Size: 120 mm, Maximum Rate: <not specified> (F h) Number of Layers: 1, Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP), Layer Type: recordable Linear Density: 0,267 um/bit, Track Density: 0,74 um/track Starting Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h (DVD-ROM, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 26053F h End Sector Number in Layer 0: 0 h (LBN: FFFD0000 h, 4193920 MB) Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist Disc Application Code: 0 / 0 h Extended Information indicators: 7 h Disc Manufacturer ID: PRODISC. Hi. Consider an update? The best so far is this one: Nero 6.6.0.18 - http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_y Your usage is a bit high. Try to close everything in the background while you're burning. I would burn no faster than 4x until i was error free if i was you. Prodisc aren't the best media around, but since your burner recognizes it properly (firmware IS up-to-date) it should burn. Still, i would look for some decent media like Verbatim or Sony. Also, could you edit out the number at the top that starts with 1Axxxxx please? You don't want your serial hanging around...
thanks for all the info m8, done exactly what u said and its all working fine, really appriecate it thanks a lot
