NeroVision Settings for Best Video Quality

I've completed several NeroVision projects in which I added menu chapters to files imported from a DVD. The video quality of the DVD is decent (not the best, but acceptable resolution), but the video quality of the DVD burned from NeroVision is compromised, with jittery images, screen lines, and video "noise" that is noticeably worse than the original DVD.

Is there an online guide for how to use the NeroVision settings to get the best video quality? Nero help doesn't really go into it.

    1. Video Options General Tab
--Nero Smart Encoding settings (Automatic? Enable? Disable?) So far, I've just used Automatic.

    2. Video Options DVD-Video Tab
--Quality (Automatic? If I select Standard or High, the file size is too large (single layer burner). I can burn this to HDD and use DVD Shrink. So far, this has produced a slightly better result.)
--Sample format (Progressive? Interlaced-top field first? Interlaced-bottom field first? Automatic?) So far, I've just used Automatic.
--Encoding Mode (1-pass? 2-pass?) I've tried both and cannot really tell any difference. If the original DVD is not high resolution to begin with, does it matter?

    3. Burn to DVD - Recorder Settings
--Speed (Max? 4X? 2X?) Is it better to burn at slower speed?
--Book Type Setting (Automatic? DVD-ROM? Physical Disk Type? Current Recorder Settings?) So far, I've just used Automatic.
--Burn At Once? Haven't used yet.

    4. Burn to Image? I haven't tried this yet, but would using this somehow result in better video quality? What application would be best for burning the image to DVD? Also, would it make any difference to seled the Burn At Once setting for this?

    5. Importing the Video Files. Is there anything that can be done when importing the original files that can help?

    Thanks to all who respond.

Well, I've learned much on my own since I posted this, but the post by alkohol does help some.

So far, I've found that setting the format sample type to Interlaced - top field first, instead of Automatic, burning to HDD, then burning to DVD with DVD Shrink, has produced the best result (also had SmartEncoding on Auto; Quality setting on High quality, and Encoding mode to High Quality (2-pass VBR). All this makes for a large file set that has to be re-encoded to fit on a single layer DVD). I'm not an expert on this stuff, but from what I've read, this makes sense.

I'm still trying other options with NeroVision 4 (there are many, and I doubt I'll find a definitive answer to my question on this one project), but haven't yet had a better quality burn than with the above settings. Also, when I say this has produced the best result, it is a noticeably better result over all other options I've tried so far, and I doubt I'll get anything better. "Noticeably better" is based on what I see, not on any video instrumentation, and is based on having watched the different test samples enough that I know what to look for. The best result is fairly fluid; all others have some degree of jitteriness in the video playback. Someone watching the different samples for the first time might not notice any difference at first.

I appreciate that someone responded. I hope maybe someone with more expertise can provide more information on this. Even my best burn has slightly less video resolution than the original DVD that my project is based on. (The original DVD was recorded from a VHS videotape of a TV broadcast, so there are probably limits to what can be done.)

I'm curious, if anyone can answer, why alkohol's procedure is to end up burning the project as a DVD-ROM. What advantage does this provide?

Many set-top DVD players do not like different types of blank discs be it a +R or-R or+DL whatever. The best way is setting the burn to DVD-ROm or booktyping, bitsetting are the keywords for this. Only DVD+ discs (dont matter R, RW,DL) can be set like this and you need the right burner and software to do it.
