Hi, I've been with Blueyonder a UK ISP for about 2 years now. I have been running with a wireless router (MR814v2tw) and a wireless USB adapter (MA111). I heard that Blueyonder (telewest) mess about with the firmware on the wireless routers limiting them to 512mbps?!
I was wondering if i could upgrade the physical speed on the wireless router by upgrading the firmware on it? Is this possible? I have been experiencing terrible wireless connection speeds, from 11mbps to 5.5 to 2.0mbps to 1.0mbps! This happens all the time! Can anyone help me fix this?

I searched all over for this, I saw this on by users before. Not sure this can be done. I've tried to connect to my router with http://192.168.0.1 but cant connect? This is the way to update the firmware. I also heard this can be done if you connect to your router and update the firmware to an official Netgear firmware - which is more reliable, not messed about with like BY do. But i cant connect to my router! :[ Can you help me? I heard this aswell:

I installed a couple of tweaks from speed guide and installed a new driver for MA111v1. seems to of stopped dropping speed, but i still want to update the firmware on the router. Apparently this is dont by getting a cat5 cable from your computer to the router but still having the router connected to the set top box :( the set top box is on the other side of my house and my house is like 50m long by 40m wide! so this is gonna bea problem. I might be able to do it by taking my whole PC down to the router. however i cant be bothered. I might be getting a new modem as the one in my stb isnt very good and limits the spped to 512kbps when with a new modem (motarola) I can get up to 2mbps! My uncle has one he can part with, as TW sent him 2x everything! LOL! 2 modems, 2 new stb! I havin one of modems. ;), so my internet could be maximized real soon. I cant wait, but i still want to update the firmware on my wireless router.

To get the IP for the router (Gateway IP), go to Start, run and type in cmd.

At the prompt, type in ipconfig.

The gateway IP will be the last on the list of three. Then, it should work by putting that IP into the address bar of your browser. You'll have to look up the username/password defaults from the router's manual.

The cmd command is not recognized? Or the ipconfig command in the DOS window is not?

A second way to get that info, is to right click your Network connections icon in the system tray (the two computers) if you have that option on. Right click, go to Status. Click on the Support tab.

If you don't have it on, right click My Network Places, go to Properties. Right click your LAN icon, Properties. Check the box to allow the icon in the system tray. You can also right click your LAN icon and go to Status.
