Hey guys...I was using my computer and plugged my web cam (USB) into the slot while the computer was on and then all of a sudden i got a message saying network cable unplugged. The cable is fine, the connection is fine on both ends. But for some reason my internet doesnt work because it still says "network unplugged". The usb port is right next to the ethernet port on my mobo slot. Any ideas what happened? or a fix? I restarted the comp and power cycled my modem and router. Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem. Only mine started after I switched to comcast. But I know my eithernet cable is fine because it does it on both of my computers and sometimes causes me to lag out on Xbox Live. Unless it is the cable going from my modem to my router.
If it happens only sporadically, look to see if your router is resetting when this happens. If so, it probably means your router can no longer handle your internet connection. Most consumer-grade routers, especially Linksys and Netgear, have limited WAN speeds. As your ISP upgrades your connection - and they often do this without telling you - your router cannot keep up. Linksys' tend to crash, while Netgears tend to reboot themselves causing that "A Network Cable is Unplugged" error. They do this so you have to buy a new router every year or so. Surprisingly, a lot of the Linksys' still on the market are only good for a 3.0 Mbps downlink speed. Ditto for some Netgears as well.
I haven't really noticed my router reseting. But I have a D Link router running from a motorola modem at 8mbs. By the way mine only does it occasionally......for instance right now it hasn't done it all day......but usually if I get the error once I get it a thousand times after that. Thanks
OK I tried using a different cable that I know for a fact works..still with no luck. This has never happened before. Could it be that the actual ethernet port is fried somehow? As soon as I plugged in the USB camera in the back USB port right next to the ethernet port that little windows plug and play bubble popped up saying "Hardware found" or what not then the bubble popped up and said "network cable unplugged" (without me loosening or unplugging the cable). I have a feeling the tip of the USB cable might have been carrying a charge or something and fried the Ethernet port on the mobo. Any other ideas guys? Greatly Appreciate if someone can help me resolve this.
does the light on the etthernet port flash? try it with and with out the usb device plugged in next to it
You very well could have broken a solder point for the RJ45 plug. Its been known to happen. A little too much pressure when putting in a USB device, and BAM! no more internet. Pick up a PCI network card (super cheap these days), and call it a day. ~Rich
Rich thanks a lot for your help that sounds like that might have been the problem. Im going to check out to see if maybe i can resolder that if not ill pick up a PCI card. Thanks alot I appreciate the help.
My internet works!!! I put a network card in instead of using the one connected to the mobo. So Rich I assume you were right about knocking the soldering loose, or somehow that port got fried by a charge carried by the metal connector of the USB cable. Thanks everybody for trying to help.
