Is this part of the same problem you posted in your previous thread?

So you are using a PCI Netwrok card?

What model is your modem, going off your other thread, it is a Webstar.
Is this a cable modem, and connected up ONLY via the ethernet connection?

Have you installed the Network card into the PCI slot and does it show up in device manager without a yellow exclamation mark?

Have you then loaded up the software for your modem from the cd you should have received with it?
Have you configured the software to use your ethernet card for internet connection - ie via the wizards etc?

I have to be honest here, but it sounds like a setup problem, but you are not providing any details we can work with.

If you could be a little more specific with EXACTLY what you have done step by step then we may be able to pinpoint the problem, rather than just throwing around ideas.

    What O/S are you using?
    Amount of memory installed?
Browser software using eg Internet explorer etc?
What Network card, and has it been installed successfully (yellow exclamation mark in device manager?)?
    What model is your modem?
Is this a cable modem, and connected up ONLY via the ethernet connection?
Have you configured the software to use your ethernet card for internet connection - ie via the wizards etc?
How did you actually configure it on your dads machine?

Any specific information you can provide will aid us in trying to resolve it........
