Basically, I got this router like a month ago, and it's not what I need. A NETGEAR wireless router... "http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3635275?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG" Well basically the network doesn't go far enough. You can say that the router is at one end of the house, and the other computer is at the other end on the 2nd story. where they both are at corners. so basically a maximum distance of the house, and the router doesn't go that far. Whats the best way to solve this? 1) Should i just get a new router? What Kind? 2) and whats this "access point" thing? would you recommend it? 3) or is there a better way? Any help is appreciated greatly. thanks. [ i need maximum range with my wireless router =P ]
Repeaters are available. All they do is take the wireless signal and repeat it. So the signal kind of leapfrogs it way across the house. Something like this. http://www.netgear.com/Products/Bri...ccessPoints/WAG302.aspx?detail=Specifications It is an AP with repeater capabilities. One of these (or similar) should do the trick. ~Rich
an access point is like a downtown for a wireless network. you can use this to configure any of your computers to use this network go to control panel>network an internet connections> wireless network set up wizard
sorry guys, i appreciate the help, but im totally newb at this. so this repeater is just a basically a new router right? so if i get a repeater, i can just use that as my router right? or do i need to use my old one plus a repeater. what about the access point? if i get one of those, where do i put it? in between the two computers? or is the access point just like a repeater? i appreciate the help, i just dont want to go into a computer store and ask them. they are just going to try to sell me something else. thanks. =P
