hi, i have a desktop connected to the internet through a cable modem downstairs, and the cable modem is connected to a wifi router that gives me wifi on my upstairs desktop. Now i would like to be able to connect my laptop to the upstairs computer to transfer files and hopefully get internet access. Is there a cable i can buy that would allow me to do that? how would i set it up? thanks a ton.
get a wi-fi card they go from only £18 and then you'll have connections to both computers via your wireless router the other alternative is ethernet cable. To go between two computers you will need a 'crossover', or if you can connect via the router just a 'patch' lead then just run the network wizard
alright, that sounds good. both computers have ethernet ports on the back, so that will work. i think i will get a crossover cable, seeing as they are only about $5 for 10 feet. so this will allow me access to files between computers as well as internet access on the laptop? when you say network wizard you mean the standard XP one, right? not the d-link, or linksys, or whatever... thanks a lot.
