    jaysonx,
Below is a guide on doing 2 sided DVD(Flippers) and it is the same as putting 2 movies on 1 DVD although the quality will suffer due to the compression you will have to use. It is an older Shrink guide but the principle is there
    http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/flipper/

You will need a ripping program to rip the DVD's to HD. DVDFAB Decrypter and Ripit4Me are both free and AnyDVD ($39.00)will do the job.

Then you will need a compression program and Shrink is free so try that.

Then you will need a burning program and you can use Imgburn, DVDDecrypter or Nero to burn. Nero costs $$ and the others are free.

After you have d/l'd the program go to the guide section here on the forum and the guides should be there to assist you. If you have any problems then start a new thread and someone will help you w/ the problem you are having.

If the programs are not on this site you can just Google for them and d/l them that way

Renting a DVD from the video store does not mean you have purchased the DVD and own it. (Unless you bought a previously vied DVD) The Video Store owns it and has permission to rent it out.

I do not see the difference between asking how to convert and edit pirated downloaded material (Which is permitted) and asking about rented DVDs and how to back them up. Both are piracy but that is up to the discretion of the MOD when they read it.

technically though, there is a very good work around arranged. as long as there is no mention of where the media was acquired, then there is no problem. so if there is no mention of 'i downloaded this movie' or 'so i want to rip this rental DVD' then no one minds.

you gotta admit its a strange arrangement! lol

Yeap it is a very strange arrangement.

But as stated above it is Permitted to talk about downloaded material(Pirated) and ask how to convert it or edit it.

But once the (Rented DVD) is mentioned then it is considered Piracy and can not be asked on the site.

I can see where the site permits question about how to edit or convert downloaded pirated material. They did not supply the file or linked to it on this site.

But that is also true when it comes to rented DVD. The site did not rent out the video to the person wanting to back it up. So you would think that it should be OK to talk about how to back it up.

But as you stated a simple way to get around it is when a member ask about a Video/DVD just say I have a video file or I need help backing up a DVD. No reason to really give information on how you acquired the Video/DVD.

    falonga and larrylje,
My take on this. He did state "the local Video Store" BUT they do sell them thereor at least at the local BB here. Now I'll admit this is a fine line but I thought he actually bought them there(cough....cough) and that is why I helped him.

    Off topic
Was not this discussion brought up w/in the last 2 years? At one time we could not help on a rented DVD but then there was a change in heart to say it was OK or is my memory going bad?

our rules are indeed confusing, allowing the site to duck & dive thru the laws. my discretion is to always close rent & burn threads, not sure yet whether this one is about bought dvd's from a vid store yet

    @falonga,

Despite all your "spins" on this one...he has stated he wants to copy DVDs he got from the local video store...NOT PURCHASED so it's talking about piracy...end of story.

    jaysonx,
I want you to re-read all that was written and then answer this question. Are the DVD's you are wanting to copy are they rented DVD's or are they DVD's that you bought from that Video Store??
