ok, just got a new 65" mitsubishi and looks great, for downstairs, its built into wall so does not stick out too far. honestly in the store it was so big i was scared iwas gonna wake up from a nap and it was gonna eat me. problem is that i have a cinema progressive dvd player by sanyo, and cant get the black bars off. my tv dvd combo upstairs can do it, but this wont. dvd player only cost 50 bucks but its progressive. dont want to use zoom to get black bars off--how can i do this? do i need a new dvd player, maybe a better one? thanks in advance. please help--new to this area of AD

if the black bars are top and bottom you are seeing the picture the way it is supposed to be. If you can remove the bars you are adjusting the picture much like the zoom feature you don't want to use.

Yeah, as mentioned above. The black bars are the format in which the DVD was recorded and there is not a thing you can...or for that matter, need to do about it, without zooming into the picture which i think is a waste.

That doesn't have anything to do with the aspect ratio. That is the resolution.

Yeah, as said, there isnt a thing you can do about it if you want the full image. REsolution doesnt come into it. The way the movie has been created, it is probably anamaphoric, means that its common. Have a look for info on anamaphoric movies and it will tell you all you need to know.
