Im going from a q6600 cpu and asus motherboard. Its time for an upgrade.
There are no rules about posting URLs at afterdawn, you don't have to block out the address. Barebone packages are universally a bad idea, and these are no exception. While you of course get decent Intel CPUs, Intel's own motherboards are very primitive and you get much better boards from other companies. Since they also do not include memory in these barebones, you don't get a lot for the cost. What are you using the new system for? Unless you do video editing or encoding work, you don't need the hyperthreading of the i7 860 and can use the much better value i5 750. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260
i use my system more for games. thats the main reason for building one. video editing not to much. what brands of mother boards do you prefer? i dont want to spend alot of money as im only swapping out the board memory and cpu. everything else will stay the same. i use compusa.com because there is one a few miles from where i live. saves on shippin and handling. i wont have to wait 3 to 5 days for delivery.
what would be better a 1156 or a 1366? i wanted to have more memory since i always have alot of programs opened.

Please use the post edit button, rather than posting multiple messages 1156 is better for your purposes as it's much cheaper, and the CPUs on it are just as fast. They just aren't as good at video editing. Unfortunately CompUSA don't have a very good range of parts so you will be paying more with them even with a discount, than you will be with newegg. If you insist on using them though,: http://www.compusa.com/applications...ls.asp?EdpNo=5521712&sku=G452-0104&srkey=P55A http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6021215&CatId=4731 http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5625835&CatId=4527 As you see, much more expensive. Your decision.
so i wouldnt need 6gb of memory then? i would like to have a fast reliable computer. if what you have chosen it reliable enough then ill just go with that. like ive said im more of a game person and coverting videos/movies.
Not with a moderate budget PC. You'd need to use huge detail settings in games to need more than 4GB.
