the NEC are about my 4th choice

and yes the DVR-112D are excellent drives but the sata DVR-212D would be my pick. i have two Plextor PX-810SA sata drive that are rebadged Pioneer DVR-212D and there are working very well. so in order of what i like

    1. Pioneer
    2. Lite-On
    3. Samsung
    4. NEC
    5. LG

Not ass-raping Plextor 700As or whatever they are anymore then? ;-)

I'd recommend Pioneer, Lite-On, NEC, Samsung. The new SATA Pioneer gets good hype from what I've read.

I possess the Pioneer DVR-112D, and I must say it's superior. I can't speak for the other makes; I've never tried them.
