Hi, This is my first computer I am building and I have been reading how how things work but before I go any farther I want to make sure that what I have picked out will all work together. Below is the parts I have selected and I would just like to know if they are all compatible together. MotherBoard: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3528165&CatId=2014 XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 780i, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Gigabit LAN, SPDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID MB-N780-ISH9 at TigerDirect.com CPU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2643933&CatId=2758 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor HH80562PH0568M - 2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor at TigerDirect.com Video Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3763188&CatId=3669 EVGA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card - 1GB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV 01G-P3-N869-AR at TigerDirect.com RAM: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3404049&CatId=3412 OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2x2048MB) OCZ2N800SR4GK at TigerDirect.com Hard Drive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136260 Newegg.com - Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262 Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives Those are the main things that I want to be sure about, I can figure out the rest of the stuff. And for the Hard drives would it be be a bad idea to have the operating system and other data on the larger Seagate hard and then use the Raptor for just games. Would that slow down the computer doing that or would it not matter? Thanks
Looks like it would all work. If I were you, I would put the OS on the Raptor with your games, and then use the other one for apps and stuff like that.
To be fair, there's not a lot in it actually. The 9600GT is less than 20% behind the 8800GT and is a fair amount cheaper. HOWEVER, I'd advise you not to use an EVGA card, they're not as good as BFG or XFX. Additionally, you don't want an SLI motherboard, neither do you need one. You could just use the Velociraptor for games, but it would make MUCH more sense to use it for your OS and a couple of bigger games, as it will halve the amount of time it takes for your PC to boot up, especially once you've got a lot of programs installed. I'd recommend this graphics card and motherboard. The rest is fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150252 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128086 Also, why not get everything from newegg? It's simpler that way and it shouldn't cost you very much extra at all - a lot of newegg components come with free shipping.
