I have a 2g pent 4, 1g ram. I think my boot sector of my primary hd is going south and was considering building another computer. This one is about 4-5yrs old. It seems once the processor speeds hit about 3.4, we don't hear much about new faster ones coming out. Now it's all about the core duo and quad core processors. From what I've learned it seems the core duo and quad cores only really help laptops and to some extent, pc's running programs that are threaded to run faster with those processors. I'm only running MS office for work related projects and DVD shrink, clone dvd and fab4 dvd decryptor for movie 'projects', but have no idea as to whether or not those progams would benefit from core duo and/or quad core.
Would I be better off just getting a 3.2g barebones system and putting in a couple of sata hd's, dvd rom and burner, maybe bump it up to 4g of ram.........or should I go to core duo?
Any help would be appreciated.......... cdan

Core 2 Duo - simply because, even at 2.4Ghz, a core 2 duo is as fast as a 5Ghz+ P4 PER CORE.
