Hey guys, just wondering if I could get some advice on a computer build I'm planning. Here are the specs of my current machine: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.3 GHz ABIT AN8 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard Patriot Signature 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) 7800 gtx Windows vista ultimate Here's what i have picked out for the new system: JetWay HA04-Extreme AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Is this a good build in your opinion? Also, would it be worth my money to get a quad core instead of the dual core i picked out? Finally, to get good performance in games, should I upgrade my gpu as well? Thanks for looking, any advise would be greatly appreciated : )
Go Intel. Core 2 Quad Q6600, EP43-DS3L Motherboard, 2x2GB Corsair XMS2 PC2 8500, Corsair VX 450W, Radeon HD4850 graphics.
If you will be doing alot of video editing (xvid/divx encoding) then a quadcore would come in handy, but for occasional encoding of video and mainly playing games the AMD x2 6000 will be fast enough. It would be a waste of money to get a quadcore if you don't plan on doing video editing. But for playing high-end games the GPU will be a more worthy investment. I have the amd x2 4800 and that's fast enough for everything I throw at it. http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2008-q1-2008/Xvid-1-1-2,403.html
If you are never going to be maxing games out, you may want to consider: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/717727/4362285-107762 Instead of the quad.
